Established in 1910, ADA Forsyth is a world leader in oral health research, education, & outreach. Based in Somerville, MA.

Founded in 1910 as a dental infirmary for disadvantaged children, the Forsyth Institute has a proud history of not just meeting the oral health needs of kids – but exceeding the traditional limits of oral medicine. In the mid-1900s, researchers at Boston-based Forsyth revolutionized the oral health profession when they discovered the connections between dental decay and bacteria. Building on these revelations, the Institute has become an independent research organization dedicated to advancing human health and well being through scientific discovery and education. Although our hallmark is the study of oral health, our focus has widened over time to include the investigation of such diverse areas as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and regenerative medicine. We have adopted this multidisciplinary research approach in order to analyze and prevent the severe systemic ramifications of oral infections. The world's most trusted authority in our field, we have a reputation for redefining convention – and we've made a century-long commitment to the community. Our work has inspired our profession to re-examine the scientific basis for oral disease. Today, the gifted scholars from around the globe who join our quest are dedicated to achieving a new generation of breakthroughs in oral health and disease prevention. Forsyth, an independent non-profit organization, is affiliated with Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard Medical School and has collaborations with university and research organizations around the world.

Bold ideas shared and partnerships forged at dentech have the power to change oral health and beyond.

Day 2 welcomed a dynamic cohort of global stewards of dental innovation. The morning’s first panel featured top investors who offered the audience invaluable perspective gained from their own experiences, including successes and lessons learned, in powering innovation in the dental and healthcare spaces.

In Working With AFI: Success Stories, Dr. Jeremy Krell of Revere Partners presented the Camellia Report, a standardized, evidence-based assessment of dental startups. Other speakers, including Dr. Ben Wu, Dr. Edward Shellard, and Dr. Marko Vujicic, spoke about initiatives across the oral health business, advocacy, and tech spaces that have benefited from ADA Forsyth’s support of evidence-based practices and resources for the dental profession.

Next, a panel of international leaders in business and academia shared infrastructure and development updates from the other side of the globe, demonstrating successful implementation and scalability of strategic partnerships among U.S.- and Asia-based components of the oral health innovation ecosystem. We’re looking forward to further developing this East-West bridge at dentech-Asia 2027 in Hong Kong!

Finally, ADA President-Elect Dr. Thomas Paumier closed the program and spoke about the power of the dental profession to make meaningful differences in oral and systemic health treatment.

ADA Forsyth dentech 2026 culminated with the highly anticipated Pitch Competition awards ceremony…more to come soon on this and all things dentech!

Energy. Insight. Solutions.

Day 1 of dentech 2026 zoomed in on new technologies in oral health. Not only those emerging in the near future, but those shifting the paradigm in dental offices and labs today.

Panel 1 welcomed heavy hitters in oral health technology, including CTOs from major dental companies. While dental technology holds an exciting future, Panel 2 presented many cutting-edge technologies making waves in clinics and labs today. The Panel 3 discussion invited “outsiders” to the dental industry to discuss how dental technology fits into a larger scientific and entrepreneurial picture.

Pitch Competition finalist companies presented transformative innovations to power the dental profession in front of an audience of investors and business leaders.

Day 1 Keynote Speakers ADA President Richard Rosato and NIDCR Deputy Director Jennifer Webster-Cyriaque delivered a one-two punch on the importance of strong patient care, technology adoption in the dental office, and advocacy for oral health treatment’s contribution to systemic health.

Looking forward to more on Day 2!

ADA Forsyth researchers have uncovered a previously unknown mechanism shaping interactions between Saccharibacteria and their bacterial hosts. A host-encoded prophage, reported on for the first time in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS), modifies Saccharibacteria's episymbiotic relationship with its host and shows they are included in viral infection networks, opening a new area of investigation into Saccharibacteria biology and ecology.

This discovery, completed by researchers in Professor Xuesong He's lab, including lead author Dr. Ajay Kumar, provides new insight into one of the most enigmatic groups of microbes in the human microbiome.

This summer, high school students from across Greater Boston joined ADA Forsyth’s world-renowned research community as Forsyth Student Scholars, taking part in a longstanding Institute tradition that gives promising young people a rare opportunity to experience cutting-edge science firsthand and explore the possibilities of a future in STEM.

Under the mentorship of ADA Forsyth’s world-class scientists, Forsyth Student Scholars gain hands-on laboratory experience conducting real-world research, learn about diverse career pathways in STEM, and pursue an individualized research project culminating in a final presentation at the end of the eight-week program. They even learn about some of the amazing projects that previous Forsyth Student Scholars are tackling.

The brief exposure to the world's top oral health research environment provides an invaluable foundation as these students enter their final years of high school and take their next steps toward higher education and future careers in science, technology, engineering, and medicine.
