You paid less for the truck. You might pay more to insure it.

That is the part nobody mentions when you are eyeing a rebuilt tractor. A rebuilt truck can cost more to insure per dollar of value, and if the premium starts eating your margin, the deal was never a deal.

So when is it worth it? When you paid well below market, you have full repair docs ready for quoting, you plan to run it paid off, and you are fine with liability only or capped physical damage on steady lanes.

When is it not? If you are financing heavily, hauling high-value cargo, already stretched on premiums, or running brand-new authority with no loss history. Stack a few of those together and the savings vanish.

You can be the best driver on the road and still run your business into the ground.

Nobody built a trucking company on clean inspections alone. The miles are the part everyone sees. The decisions are the part that decides whether you're still hauling in five years.

Your coverage is one of those decisions. Most operators sign it once, then never look again until a claim tells them what they actually bought.

Drive like a professional. Think like an owner.

A blurry cell phone photo has settled more freight claims than any argument ever will.

Here's why. When a cargo dispute lands on your desk, nobody's asking who's telling the truth. They're asking what you can prove. The photo at pickup. The signed BOL. The inspection report sitting in a folder you almost deleted.

That paper is the whole case.

The receipt you almost tossed. The document you signed without thinking twice. Small today. The day a claim hits, they're the difference between getting paid and eating the loss.

Not sure where the gaps in your records would leave you? Message us and ask for a coverage review.

You just bought your first truck. I've got 30 seconds. Here's the one thing.

Your first year with new authority gets priced like a blank page. No safety history. No inspection record. No claims history to prove you're careful. Carriers fill that blank with their worst assumption, and you pay for it.

Here's what most first-time buyers miss: year one isn't just something to get through. It's the record year two gets priced on. Clean inspections, no coverage lapses, documented maintenance. That's not busywork. That's you writing your own rate for the next few years.

Watch the truck payment if you want. I'd watch the record.

Rate your trucking week, one to five. ⭐

1: Barely survived
2: Could've been worse
3: Not bad
4: Great week
5: Everything actually went according to plan

Be honest. Most weeks land in the messy middle, and it's usually the stuff you didn't plan for that drags the number down. A breakdown. A DOT stop. A load that ghosted you Thursday afternoon.

Drop your number below. And if your last 1-star week involved a claim that didn't go the way you hoped, DM us. We'll look at what your policy actually covers.

You showed up. The load didn't.

The shipper canceled, the freight's gone, and you just burned a day and a tank getting there.

Quick quiz: is there a name for the payment you can get just for showing up to a dead load?

There is. Truck Order Not Used. TONU.

It's usually a flat fee written into your rate confirmation. If it's not in there, you've got nothing to point to when you ask for it. That's the part most drivers learn the hard way.

Know your terms. Know your coverage. Both protect the same thing: your money.

A good reputation can travel farther than any truck.

Here is the part nobody mentions: it travels straight to an underwriting desk. Your inspection history. Your out of service record. That claim from two winters ago. All of it shows up before you do.

Running clean and still getting quoted like a problem account? Usually that means nobody told your story. Somebody submitted paperwork and waited.

Call us or DM us. We will look at what your record actually says, and where it is costing you.

What's one mistake you made as a rookie that you'd never make today?

We'll start. Buying coverage on price alone. The cheapest quote wins the day you sign it, right up until you file a claim and read what it left out. Cargo limits too low. A gap the second a driver runs off your normal lanes. Stuff you never think about until it's the only thing you're thinking about.

Your turn. What did year-one you do that today-you would never?

Tell us in the comments. If reading this made you wonder what your own policy actually covers, DM us and we'll take a look. No pitch.

You have been at the receiver since 6 a.m. It is now past 10. Somebody owes you for that time, right?

Maybe. That answer lives in your rate confirmation, not your insurance policy. Detention terms are negotiated per load, the free window varies by shipper, and plenty of operators never read that section until they are already sitting.

Your policy handles a different question: what happens to the freight and the equipment while you wait. Theft at a truck stop. Damage on the dock. Those are coverage conversations.

One document pays you for waiting. The other protects what you are hauling. Do not confuse them.

DM us and we will walk through what your current coverage actually does. 🕒

You found the truck. Price works, hours look reasonable, and the seller says the rebuild receipts are in a folder somewhere.

That folder is the deal.

We go through rebuild documentation every week. It is slow, unglamorous work, and it is the part that separates a used truck that gets covered from one that does not. The purchases that go bad are not the cheap ones. They are the ones made in a hurry, on emotion, with insurance saved for last.

Rebuilt and high mileage tractors can absolutely work. Line up the paperwork, set expectations on what coverage will look like, and structure the policy before money moves.

Ask before the title is in your name. Not after. 🚛
