We're taking you behind the scenes!

Recently, we closed our main campus and Everyday Adoption Center for staff training. Following Fear Free and ASV guidelines, these trainings are an essential part of our commitment to providing safe, compassionate, and low-stress care for the animals in our shelter while also keeping our staff, volunteers, and community members safe.

During this training, we refreshed our knowledge of reading canine body language, proper leash-handling techniques, and how to safely use the new leashes recently donated to us.

Ongoing education like this is a vital part of animal welfare. By continuing to learn and grow, we're able to reduce stress for the animals in our care, improve safety for everyone involved, and help set pets up for success both in the shelter and in their future homes.

A huge thank you to our lead veterinary team, Dr. Megan and Dr. Jessie, for leading this training and for being such wonderful mentors to our staff. 🧡

She's 3 years old, mixed breed, weighs 66 pounds, and is 100% a special girl.

A little slobbery and a little independent, Annabelle is destined to be a loyal companion for life. Not much is known about her history as she was transferred from a partner rescue but here's a few things we know about her.

❌ She's not all about eating treats or getting crazy attention from her people.

✅ Instead, Annabelle has a quieter love and affection for humans. Once she gets to know you, she'll lean on you for gentle scratches and pets and walk away once she's done.

One thing our staff loves about Annabelle is how she absolutely loves being outdoors. Annabelle could spend all day smelling every smell that has ever smelled. You will also find her rolling around in grass, and if you don't, there will definitely be hints.... like finding grass all over her slobbery snoot. 🌱

🧡🐾 Sweet Ruru (F, 4 years) is waiting patiently to meet you!
This stunning feline was surrendered to us due to unfortunate circumstances, but she's still got a whole lotta love to give to her people. She's gotten along well with other cats previously and loves showing affection to her people every chance she gets. 🥰

It’s , and we have a lot to be grateful for.

As the Spokane PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center, our partnership creates more opportunities for animals to find homes while making an impact that extends far beyond adoption.

Most recently, PetSmart Charities provided disaster relief funding to help SHS respond during a time of need. These grants help keep people and pets together during crises by supporting access to essentials like shelter, care, food and other critical resources.

That generosity was felt locally, too. Throughout August, the PetSmart Northpointe team rallied, collecting in-store donations for those in need. To their team and every person who contributed, we are furever grateful.

Now, we get to celebrate another part of this partnership: ADOPTIONS! 🐾

Adopt Joy is this Saturday, 9/26, at our Everyday Adoption Center at Northpointe PetSmart this weekend! Keep an eye on our socials as we get closer for details on in-store adoption promotions and a look at some of the animals who will be available.

With some patience, the perfect family will always come around. 💕

This is Sophie. Because of unfortunate circumstances, Sophie was surrendered to us June 2021 at 4 years old. When she arrived, she was a bit shy but was able to show us her enthusiastic side after she settled in.

Sophie was adopted and returned twice. It just wasn't a perfect match, but we never gave up hope.

Since she was adopted January 2022, Sophie has been living a lavish life surrounded by so much love. Her family shares that she is a wonderful dog with funny little quirks. 🧡

Sophie's happiness, goofiness, and love for life shown in these photos are incredible to see. 🐾Thank you so much to Sophie's family for sharing this update! And thank you for giving Sophie the life she deserves. 🥰

🐾 Stay current on vaccinations and discuss spaying or neutering with your veterinarian if your pet has not yet been altered.
