My full review of 1408 on rewatch after nearly 20 years:

"Why are you mocking me, when I am genuinely to the best of my ability trying to help you?"

Back decades ago when I first saw this (okay Grandma, let's get you to bed) it viscerally freaked me out bad. It was also one of my favorite movies in my 20s. Not much has changed insofar as I still love a horror movie that gets me emotionally in the gut and has me checking under beds and behind shower curtains.

This in particular doesn't scare me as much as it once did. In my seasoned age rewatch I was able to more appreciate the humor. The scene between John Cusack's skeptically traumatized Mike Enslin and Samuel L. Jackson's entirely over it hotel manager Gerald Olin, wherein the latter attempts to convince the former not to stay in the "evil fu***ng room" (shout out Samuel for getting the one f**k) remains one of my favorites. The two play off one another beautifully, and both are excellent with the dialogue.

All in all, I still vibe with 1408 in similar ways. The hatched cortex just processes it in a more nuanced way than in my salad days.
