Spokane Alliance member organizations don't just work for their communities. They invest in the people who lead them.
This summer, leaders from eleven member organizations participated in the IAF Pacific Regional Organizing Training, an intensive five day training in broad based community organizing. Together, they strengthened their organizing skills, deepened their understanding of how change happens, and built relationships with leaders from across the Pacific region.
The lessons don't stay in the classroom. Leaders bring these skills back to their congregations, unions, nonprofits, and community organizations, where they strengthen relationships, develop new leaders, and work alongside others to address issues affecting our communities.
Over the coming weeks, we'll introduce the member organizations that invested in this training and the leaders who are helping build a stronger Spokane.

Join SEIU 775 and allies this coming Thursday Sept 24 at 12PM at the Red Wagon to support immigrant caregivers!
A member of the SEIU 775 family was recently detained and is speaking out about the recent escalation of arrests of Kenyan immigrants across Washington.
As Adam Glickman wrote, “Kidnapping caregivers and our families from our communities will not make our country better but instead will cause real harm to seniors and people living with disabilities."
Immigrant caregivers are an essential part of our communities and our care infrastructure. Join us next Thursday to stand together!

As Spokane considers how to rebuild after the Complex Fires—and how to address our broader housing crisis—we have an opportunity to learn from what other communities are trying, ask what could work here, and imagine new ways to build a more affordable, resilient, and connected Spokane.
Join us on September 28th 6-7:30PM Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane for a conversation on Housing for the Public Good!

Last night, more than 60 people came together to reflect on the Spokane Complex Fires and ask a bigger question: What do we want our community to look like as we move forward?
We began with two questions:
What was your experience of the fires?
What did the fires reveal about the state of our social infrastructure in Spokane?
As Rev. Bob Feeny reminded us, “The word apocalypse refers to something that reveals, or pulls aside a curtain.”
Now, we’re taking that conversation into our congregations, union halls, and community organizations. We’ll be listening to people’s experiences, asking what the fires revealed, and thinking together about what we want to strengthen and build for the future.
The question isn’t just how we recover from this disaster. It’s what kind of community we want to build because of what we’ve learned.

Spokane Alliance leaders recently sat down with Rep. Suzanne Schmidt to discuss solutions for making affordable homeownership a reality for more families in North Spokane County.
Residents of Takesa Village and leaders from Village Cohousing Works shared concrete ideas for creating more permanently affordable homes and and for investing in repairs and that help existing homes remain safe and healthy.
These community leaders are showing us what’s possible when residents come together to identify solutions and bring their experiences and ideas to elected leaders.
