Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, vendors, and community members who took part in Hands Across Spokane today. There was so much love and care that went into making today possible, and we could not have done it alone.
There is much more to share, and we will soon. But for tonight, we are taking a very well deserved break.
And remember, while it is the responsibility of all of us, community starts with you.
Hands Across Spokane is almost here.
This Saturday, September 12th, we’re bringing more than 35 local organizations, live music, food trucks, activities, and a whole lot of community to Riverfront Park’s Central Plaza from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
Throughout the day, you’ll hear live music from T. Dodger, Hannah Boundy, and Henry Schultz, grab food from Sabor Latino, Kamayan Spokane, and Island Style Food, and connect with organizations from across Spokane.
Our official program begins at 12 PM with Mike Ellis as MC, remarks from Spokane Poet Laureate Mery Smith and Spokane Youth Poet Laureate Hope Austin, and the presentation of the first-ever Helping Hand Award to 2026 Community Connector of the Year Stephaine Courtney by Spokane City Council President Betsy Wilkerson.
Around 1 PM, we’ll conclude the program by joining hands across the park, creating a visible reminder of the network of care that exists across our city.
Bring your family, your friends, your neighbors, or just pull up solo. Come for the music, the food, the resources, the people, or all of it.
We’ll see you Saturday, Spokane.

Through The Shades of Motherhood Network, Stephaine has turned her own experiences into powerful advocacy, creating the kind of support for Spokane families that she once needed herself. Her compassion and determination have changed lives countless lives in our community, and we are deeply honored to recognize her as Spokane’s first Community Connector of the Year.
Join us at Hands Across Spokane on September 12th as Council President Betsy Wilkerson presents Stephaine with this year’s award.

Join us tomorrow for Community Play and Learn at Garland Church!
Happening every Thursday from 10-11:30 AM, families and their infant, toddler & preschool age children can come spend time together, connect with other families, and enjoy simple activities that support early learning through play!

CME has a few spaces still available for the 2026/27 school year for income-eligible families with children ages 3 or 4! Our ECEAP classroom at the MLK Community Center runs Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
