Count down to Unity in the Community! It’s the day we stuff all of the bags of school supplies to be given away Saturday. Who are you bringing with you?

Update:
We had our park walk through yesterday, all systems are a go!!
We can’t wait to see you on August 15th

Our hearts are with all affected by the fires.

Unity in the Community will happen on 8/15 we look forward to seeing you.

Please know we cannot offer refunds, this is a volunteer ran organization and all funds go towards putting on the event which have been purchased/ordered.

Thank you ame spokane for your generous contribution to support the 32nd annual Unity in the Community, this year's theme: “Strength in Community, Power in Diversity.” We look forward to seeing you on August 15th.

Disability Action Center NEW will host the 4th annual Bridging CommunitiesCelebration in Riverfront Park, Spokane. This Multi-Cultural event will start at 11am and run through 3pm. It will be located around the fountain.

The schedule for the Bridging Communities Celebration is as follows:

11-11:30 am - Blessing and Land Acknowledgement

Spokane City Proclamation by Mayor Lisa Brown

11:30-noon - Bollywood Dancers

12:00-12:15 - ADA Quiz and Raffle Prizes

12:15-1:15 - River Street Latin Band

1:15-1:45 - Tom McTevia Award Presentation, ADA Quiz and Raffle Prizes

1:45- 2:15 - Vietnamese Lion Dance Team

2:15-2:30 - ADA Quiz and Raffle Prizes

2:30-3:00 - Native Dancers & Drum Circle with Buck Shot Singers

3:00 - Conclusion

FREE food tickets available for middle eastern and Mexican food, kettle corn, shaved ice, and ice cream, plus free t-shirts while supplies last.

A Vendor/Resource Fair will have over 30 displays and includes a World Market, located on the orange bridge. And there will be a Kid’s Area with games, crafts, face painting, sidewalk chalk. Free raffle prizes and a trivia contest about the Americans with Disabilities Act round out this educational event which is open to the public.

NEW this year is the Wheelchair Obstacle Course, where visitors can experience the barriers people with wheelchairs face everyday. This course was built by WSU Mechanical Engineering Students to mimic opening a door on a slope, barriers in a walkway, potholes and cracks in the sidewalk and overhanging shrubbery.

“Disability rights are under threat right now,” said Executive Director Mark Leeper. “We want to celebrate how far we’ve come and inspire the public to continue to fight for disability rights.”
