Is Las Vegas actually running out of water?
Lake Mead is near record-low levels. But the situation for Las Vegas is more complicated than the headlines make it seem.
Southern Nevada has spent decades preparing for declining lake levels, including major investments in deeper water infrastructure and aggressive conservation. Las Vegas has also dramatically reduced its per-capita water use even as the population has grown.
So is there reason to pay attention? Absolutely.
Does a shrinking Lake Mead mean Las Vegas is about to run out of water? No.

Monument Hills is officially coming to Northwest Las Vegas.
The 940-acre master-planned community is planned for the upper northwest valley near Kyle Canyon Road and the 215 Beltway, with up to 6,000 homes expected.
The site was acquired for $94 million by Olympia Companies and Bruin Capital Partners in August 2026.
For Creech AFB families, this is a development worth following. Its northwest location could make it another option for buyers looking to live closer to Creech while maintaining access to the rest of the Las Vegas Valley.
There are no homes to buy yet. The project still needs to move through engineering, entitlements, grading, infrastructure, builder lot sales, and model construction. First home deliveries are currently projected for spring 2028.

A brand-new 940-acre master-planned community โ Monument Hills โ is officially moving forward near Kyle Canyon Road and the 215, with plans for up to 6,000 new homes.
Plans specifically include housing intended to support military families stationed at Creech and Nellis AFB.
- Up to 6,000 homes
- 90 acres of parks & trails
- 2 planned school sites
- Shops, dining & community amenities
- First homes could arrive in 2028
No builders, floor plans, or pricing have been announced yet โ but if youโre stationed at Creech, PCSing here, or considering buying in Northwest Vegas, Monument Hills needs to be on your radar.
