Spring Creek is fast and full after all this rain we've received recently. Despite its beauty, I had this natural fear of getting near the water's edge. Falling into this river could mean death. Once it warms up a bit (and the creek isn't flowing at full force) these water levels will make for some nice kayaking!

The dry season ended with the first big rain of the early wet season in Puerto Vallarta — and we went out on a short hike to see what was moving. Absolutely right place at the right time for the amphibians to come out in full force (and an indigo snake hunting them).
Marbled Toads (Incilius marmoreus) in full breeding display, turning bright yellow overnight
Duck-Billed Tree Frog (Triprion spatulatus) were breeding everywhere in the ephemeral ponds too.
Super thankful (and lucky) for this moment in Mexico.
My neighbor's weiner dog and pug HATE Archie and I for literally no reason (we're both so nice to them lol). I got tired of being attacked in my own yard so I laid up a piece of tin and they were not happy with me whatsoever. I still love them even though they hate me.
I’m not gonna sit here and say that Eastern Kingsnakes are top tier lamoropeltis but man yall have no idea how stoked I was to snag this lifer lamp on a quick work trip to Alabama.

That nose is actually a shield. 🛡️
This is a Duck-Billed Tree Frog (Triprion spatulatus) — and its head is a living plug. Those broad, bony flanges give it that spoon shape (the name comes from the Latin for "spoon"), and the frog uses it for a behavior called phragmosis: backing into a rock crevice or bromeliad and sealing the entrance with its own spiked head.
That living plug protects it from predators and helps it wait out the hot, dry days in Mexico's tropical deciduous forests. When the rains come, it's back out to breed.
And that black-on-yellow patterning is just unreal — some of the wildest coloration and morphology of any tree frog.

Some fun in the rain with MANARD MAN. He was scared sh*tless of thunderstorms so I took him outside to show him everything was chill. As soon as we got outside for a walk he immediately forgot all about the storm and was just having a blast on his walk. Until it started thundering lol I felt kinda bad he got so scared after that. Thankfully he was a good bubbas and stuck by my side despite his FLIGHT response.
Went to the to visit my friends and extraordinarily gifted culinary experts. Jake and Delaney started and to provide delicious things in Houston area. All of their ingredients are healthy, ethically sourced, and fresh. I wish I could have taken like a 5 minute video of Jake just explaining how they make each of their saucers. A pair of mating Duck-Billed Tree Frogs, Tripriom spatulatus, otherwise known as the Mexican Shovel-Headed Tree Frog. Such a cool observation to find tons of these things all in the same puddle. Mating like crazy. Right place right time to bring my camera on a hike!
