What an educational week it has been at Southern University and A&M College - Baton Rouge, LA for the campers participating in the Algorithms and Energy Camp using curriculum from the Tapia Center!

Students explored STEM through hands-on sessions focused on data centers, computer hardware concepts, carbon management and even field trips to the Baton Rouge Coca-Cola Bottling Company and LSU's PERTT Lab. It’s always inspiring to see students engage with emerging technologies and discover possible STEM careers.

A special thank you to the ExxonMobil representatives and other guests who participated – sharing their expertise and providing valuable insight into the many opportunities available in STEM fields. Your support continues to make a meaningful impact on the next generation of industry leaders.

Innovation in STEM education starts with empowering teachers, and the Tapia Center’s Professional Development Program taking place at SOWELA Technical Community College does just that.

Educators from multiple parishes in Louisiana gathered this week for an immersive experience focused on expanding STEM learning opportunities in the classroom.

Supported by ExxonMobil contributions, the program provides teachers with access to new curriculum resources, industry expertise, and hands-on activities they can share with their students.

We look forward to updates throughout the upcoming school year of students experiencing these new STEM projects!

Yesterday kicked off our fourth year collaborating with Southern University and A&M College - Baton Rouge, LA and the Tapia Center to bring STEM camps to middle and high school students from across the region!

This year is focused on Algorithms and Energy, where students will be investigating techniques related to data center operations. They will build model turbines, construct carbon capture and storage reservoirs, practice public speaking skills and so much more.

Today, students heard from ExxonMobil Socioeconomic Advisor Tara Bazille who spoke about her real-world STEM experience, how STEM shaped her career pathway and why the skills learned this week can positively impact their future.

Throughout this week the students will participate in field trips, hands-on challenges and activities, and a final project showcase.

The 44 attendees came from the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management, Harris County Precinct 2, Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department and HAZMAT and a member of the Houston Catastrophic Planning Unit.
