What can a few months of music lessons look like? 🎹
It doesn't happen all at once.
First it's finding the notes. Then getting the rhythm. Then putting things together without stopping every few seconds.
And somewhere along the way, something that once felt really difficult starts to feel...natural.
That's one of our favorite things to watch happen.
Progress doesn't have to be fast to be exciting. It just has to keep moving forward. 🎶

“I’d love for my child to learn an instrument. I just don’t want to fight about practicing every night.”
Fair. 😄
Practice matters, but learning music shouldn't turn into a nightly battle between parent and child.
Some days, practice will be great. Other days, getting through a few minutes may be the win.
The goal isn't a perfect practice streak. It's helping children gradually learn that getting better at something takes repetition, patience and a little persistence, even when they don't feel like doing it.
And yes, sometimes they’ll need a reminder.
They’re kids. That’s okay. 🎶

Why do we give our students so many opportunities to perform? 🎶
At Spring School of Music, we hold four recitals each year.
Not because every student dreams of performing on a stage, plenty of them are nervous about it!
We do it because having something to work toward changes the way students learn.
There’s a date on the calendar. A piece they want to be ready to play. A reason to keep working through the tricky parts instead of giving up.
And then comes the best part: getting to look back and say, “I did it.”
The performance may only last a few minutes. The confidence that comes from preparing for it can last much longer. 💛

What exactly is Piano Lab? 🎹
It’s a question we get from parents, because Piano Lab is a little different from what many people picture when they think of piano lessons.
Students learn alongside other students, but each child is working at their own level, at their own pace, with individualized instruction from their teacher.
One student may be working on their first few songs while another is tackling something much more advanced. They don’t have to keep up with the person next to them, or wait for anyone else to catch up.
For many kids, it’s a great combination: individual attention with the energy of learning alongside other students.
That’s Piano Lab. 🎹

Does your child make music out of...well, everything? 🎶
Maybe they're always singing, even making up songs about whatever they're doing.
Maybe they're tapping rhythms on the table, drumming on their legs, or turning spoons into instruments.
Maybe the toy piano, xylophone or anything else that makes music is always the toy they come back to.
Kids don't always walk up to their parents and say, “I'd like to take music lessons.” Sometimes they don't even know that's an option yet.
But they'll often show you they're interested in music long before they ever ask.
Sometimes you just have to listen. 🎵

One of the best parts of recital season isn’t what happens on stage, it’s what happens after. 🎶
Yes, music lessons are about learning to play an instrument, but they’re also about so much more: confidence, connection, and learning to cheer each other on.
At a recent recital, a normally shy, quiet student finished her performance, sat down next to the student who had performed before her, and said:
“Hi! My name is Emma, what is your name? You did a GREAT JOB!!”
In that moment, her shyness disappeared, not for herself, but to encourage someone else.
This is why we do what we do. 🎶💛

🎵 Does your child make up songs, tap out rhythms, or turn everyday moments into a performance?
Those little moments could be signs of a natural connection to music.
At Spring School of Music, we help kids explore that interest, build confidence, and develop a love of music that can last a lifetime.

A parent asked me recently,
“How do I know if a piano school is the right fit for my child?” 🎹
It’s a good question because learning piano isn’t just about finding someone who can teach the notes.
Children learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again.
A good piano school should give students structure and clear instruction, but it should also recognize that every child learns differently.
Some students need more repetition. Some move quickly. Some are naturally confident at the piano, while others need a little more time before they feel comfortable playing in front of someone.
That’s why I think the right learning environment matters so much.
Your child should be challenged, but not constantly frustrated. They should be making progress, but they should also still enjoy sitting down at the piano.
Because years from now, I don't just want a student to remember the songs they learned.
I want them to remember that learning piano was something they enjoyed. ❤️🎹

🎹 “They played it perfectly yesterday. What happened?”
If your child suddenly struggles with a piano song they seemed to know yesterday, it doesn't necessarily mean they're going backward.
Learning piano isn't always a straight line.
One day, a section may feel easy. The next day, they might miss notes, forget fi*****ng, or struggle with a rhythm they've played many times before.
That can be a normal part of learning. 🧠🎵
Children are developing several piano skills at once, including:
🎼 Reading notes
👐 Coordinating both hands
🥁 Keeping rhythm
👂 Listening to what they're playing
🧠 Remembering patterns and movements
Some days, all of those pieces come together beautifully. Other days, they don't.
Instead of focusing on one difficult practice session, look at your child's progress over weeks and months.
A rough day at the piano doesn't erase what they've learned. ❤️
Progress isn't always a straight line, and that's okay. 🎹

🎹 Why Do Kids Quit Music Lessons?
Usually, it’s not because they aren’t talented.
Sometimes:
🎵 Practice starts feeling like a chore.
🎵 They don’t notice their progress.
🎵 They rarely get to play music they enjoy.
🎵 They become afraid of making mistakes.
🎵 Lessons move too quickly or too slowly for them.
Kids need structure and consistency, but they also need small wins, encouragement, and room to enjoy the process.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s helping children build a relationship with music they’ll want to keep. ❤️🎶
