What Recovery Really Looks Like | Honest Answers from Someone Who's Been There 07/12/2026

**"I never thought it would be me."**

That's one of the most powerful moments in this week's Better Life in Recovery Podcast.

Lauren shares her incredible journey from addiction, homelessness, abusive relationships, and prison to becoming a Certified Peer Specialist helping others find hope and healing.

In this honest conversation, we tackle questions many people are afraid to ask:

💙 Why do people start using drugs?
💙 What finally makes someone decide to quit?
💙 How does trauma affect addiction?
💙 What helps someone stay in recovery?
💙 What can parents do if they're worried about their child?

Whether you're in recovery, love someone who is, or work in the recovery or mental health field, Lauren's story is a reminder that **no one is beyond hope** and that recovery is possible.

One of my favorite quotes from the episode:

*"Just because you don't expect it doesn't mean it can't happen. And just because you don't know how doesn't mean you won't soon. Reach out. Tell somebody."*

Why Passion Isn't Enough in Recovery (The Missing Ingredient) 06/08/2026

What happens when the excitement of recovery wears off?

Passion can get us started. It can inspire us, motivate us, and help us take that first step.

But passion alone won't carry us through life's challenges.

In this week's Better Life in Recovery Podcast, David and Josh discuss why commitment—not just passion—is what creates lasting recovery, stronger communities, and meaningful change.

If you've ever struggled with following through, staying consistent, or finding your purpose, this conversation is for you.

What if a simple outdoor space could help someone find hope?

At Better Life in Recovery, we believe healing happens in community. That's why we're working to transform the outdoor space at our new home into a place where people can gather, share meals, build friendships, and find connection in recovery.

On June 12th, 60-80 volunteers will be showing up ready to work. The labor is covered.

Now we need your help with the materials.

Your donation will help provide picnic tables, grills, yard games, landscaping, and other improvements that will turn an empty green space into a place where hope grows.

If you believe in recovery, community, and second chances, would you consider partnering with us?

Donate today at BetterLifeInRecovery.com

Every gift helps create a place where people can find healing, connection, and a truly better life in recovery.

❤️ Share this post to help us reach more people who care about making a difference.
