Big Y has been a large community partner since its inception in 1936 in Chicopee. For nine decades this family-owned grocery chain has never compromised its values, putting its neighbors at the heart of their purpose. I want to thank the D’Amour family for welcoming myself, the local delegation, and Governor Maura Healey to celebrate their legacy.

I was enormously grateful to start my day with the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs at their inaugural to discuss several issues facing our young citizens. From mental health, AI and workforce development, to the path we all took from the Clubs to the legislature, I was glad to join this important discussion on how these young people may be able to positively impact change in their communities and lives. This summit brought together more than 80 teams from 15 clubs across the state, and I look forward to seeing what each one of them is able to accomplish.

In the Massachusetts Senate I am proud to be the lead sponsor of S. 2554, An act to improve care and prepare for the new era of Alzheimer’s and dementia, aimed at enhancing Alzheimer’s and dementia care for future generations. It would establish a public awareness campaign, create a new dementia care coordinator position within the executive office of health and human services, and ensure that first responders are specialized in dementia training.  It is time that we end the stigma surrounding this disease and adequately prepare for the future of healthcare in our state.

This morning was the inaugural breakfast of the Puerto Rican Parade Weekend. I’m so grateful to be a part of a grand celebration of Puerto Rican culture, community, a reflection of our history, and all of that together to push for a better future beyond. This is lasting legacy, and everyone participating in the breakfast this morning has a hand in carrying the flame. I want to thank the Puerto Rican Parade & Festival Committee, our many public servants, local colleges, and elected officials attending. But the parade wouldn’t be possible without the community, and I want to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who carries the celebratory spirit of Puerto Rican history.
