We’re sad to learn that freelance photographer Ed Cohen passed away. He loved STCC and that affection came through his work. His photos captured the people, moments and spirit of our college for many years. They became an important part of our college’s history. We are grateful for Ed’s talent, friendship and many years of dedication. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him.

The STCC Rowing Club powered through rain, wind, waves and strong currents to earn 2nd place in the Community Division at the 2026 Springfield Dragon Boat Festival!

The team, made up of STCC students, faculty, staff and community members, showcased incredible teamwork, determination and Ram pride on the Connecticut River.

The Rowing Club, launched in partnership with the Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club, gives students the opportunity to learn and enjoy rowing in a fun, supportive environment while building confidence, fitness and community.

🎤 Speak up, think critically and make your case!

In The Great Debaters: Civic Conversations, Media Literacy, & Public Speaking, students ages 11–16 will build confidence while learning how to research information, evaluate sources and communicate their ideas clearly and respectfully.

Through guided conversations, team activities and structured debates, students will explore age-appropriate topics from current events, sports, social media and their communities. They’ll rotate through roles including debater, researcher, analyst and presenter while strengthening public speaking, listening, teamwork and media literacy skills.

The week culminates in a judged Great Debate, with an optional Oratorical Showcase for students ready to take the stage on their own.

🏀 Build skills on the court—and beyond it!

In Basketball and Physics, students ages 11–16 will work with college basketball coaches to strengthen their skills in every position while learning what it takes to become a well-rounded student-athlete.

Players of all experience levels will receive personalized instruction, practice offensive and defensive techniques, participate in scrimmages and learn proper warm-up and cool-down routines. The program also emphasizes health, nutrition, academics, respect, leadership and community.

Each student will leave with new drills, skill-development routines and the confidence to continue growing both on and off the court.

🧠 What makes us think, feel, remember and react?

In Wired for Action: The Roots of Behavior, Emotions, and Memory, students ages 11–16 will explore how the brain and nervous system shape human behavior.

Through interactive models, guided discussions and hands-on activities, students will examine how neurons communicate, how signals travel through the nervous system and how different regions of the brain work together. They’ll also explore how emotions are processed, memories are formed and genetics and hormones can influence behavior.

This academically focused course introduces neuroscience concepts often taught at the high school or early college level in an engaging, age-appropriate environment.

In Digital Photography and Visual Storytelling, students will learn how to create compelling images using composition, lighting, perspective and timing. Through hands-on activities and creative challenges, they’ll explore portrait photography, action shots and visual storytelling while discovering how photos can communicate emotion, ideas and experiences.

🐍 Take your first byte into coding this summer!

In Snake Byte: Intro to Python Programming, students ages 12–14 will learn the basics of Python, one of the world’s most popular programming languages—no prior coding experience required.

Throughout the week, students will explore essential coding concepts like input and output, variables, calculations, conditional statements and loops. They’ll put those new skills into practice by creating fun projects, including their own Mad Libs and rock, paper, scissors games.

🎨 Turn ideas into art this summer!

In Introduction to 2D Design, students ages 10–16 will explore how artists use line, shape, color, pattern, texture and space to create strong, eye-catching designs.

Through hands-on studio projects, students will build drawing skills, strengthen creative problem-solving and learn how art can communicate ideas and connect to the world around us. From the first sketch to the finished piece, participants will develop their ideas while learning proper studio techniques and safe material use.
