Exciting times at Springfield College as we begin welcoming our incoming cohort of Athletic Counseling students and begin mental health prescreenings with our student athletes on campus!

📣 AC Summer Spotlight 📣

This summer, we will be highlighting members of our athletic counseling program and their summer endeavors!

Ben Solomon is a second year Athletic Counseling student from Arlington, MA. This summer, Ben is working with Riser+Tread, a counseling and sport psychology private practice in the Greater Boston area. He is interning on the Sport Performance and Recovery team, gaining hands on experience in a private practice in the fields of mental performance and counseling. He has enjoyed creating mental performance resources for clients and learning what life is like in a real world practice outside of school.

In his free time, Ben has been playing lots of basketball and recently picked up tennis. Great work, Ben!

This summer, we will be highlighting members of our athletic counseling program and their summer endeavors!

Sadie Blackwell is a second year in the Athletic Counseling Program from Southbury, CT. This summer, Sadie completed her AmeriCorps service at Springfield Central High School. Sadie is currently working with the Husky Beach Volleyball program as an AC and doing individual sessions with athletes. Outside of work, Sadie is fostering a dog, Molly, and training for an Ironman 70.3! Keep up the great work, Sadie!

Alexis Deluca (Buffalo, New York) and Kelsey Logsdon (Berkley, Michigan) are second years in the Athletic Counseling Program. This summer, Alexis and Kelsey are working at Springfield College’s East Campus, where they are aquatics directors at the university’s summer camp. They are also available as facilitators for summer sessions held at East Campus. Keep it up, guys!

Jack Bird is a second year in the Athletic Counseling Program from Buffalo, New York. This summer, Jack is working with the Bristol Blues (Bristol, CT) of the New England Collegiate Baseball League as a graduate level mental performance coach! Jack is excited for the opportunity to work with elite athletes and take a holistic approach to their athletic and mental performance and wellbeing. Good luck, Jack!

This summer, we will be highlighting members of our athletic counseling program and their summer endeavors!

Emely Oviedo is a third year in the Athletic Counseling Program from Chicago Heights, Illinois. This summer, Emely is working with the Bloom Township Center Soccer Camp where she will provide lessons and workshops on mental performance and social emotional learning! The program has been implemented to help young athletes develop mental and emotional skill to be used both in and out of soccer. Emely is also preparing to begin her clinical internship with Mentor South Bay of Sevita Home and Community Based Care in Springfield! Way to go, Emely!

Sydney Schenn is a second year in the Athletic Counseling Program from Moosomin, Saskatchewan Canada. This summer, Sydney is working with the Moosomin Generals Football Club, as well as working with individual clients! She is also currently staying in Springfield and enrolled in classes as she continues to pursue her mental health counseling track in 2 years.

Sydney had this to say about her experience thus far:
“One of the most rewarding parts of athletic counselling has been working with young athletes and helping them develop confidence, focus, resilience, and other mental skills that extend far beyond sport. While I’ve loved working with athletes from a variety of backgrounds, I am especially excited to give back to the Moosomin Generals Football Club, where my passion for this field first developed and inspired me to pursue athletic counselling.”

This summer, we will be highlighting members of our athletic counseling program and their summer endeavors!

Alex Morici is a 3rd year in the Athletic Counseling Program from Haskell, NJ. This summer, Alex is volunteering with the Special Olympics Program in New Jersey, and preparing to begin his internship at Bryant University as a flex clinical/sport psychology intern in the fall! Alex had this to say about his experience with the AC program:

“Being in the clinical mental health/athletic counseling program has challenged in more ways that I imagined at one time. I was able to explore more about myself, and push myself professionally into different areas — like my upcoming fall internship role at Bryant University, and through volunteer work at the Special Olympics, New Jersey (SONJ) this summer. I am excited to pursue these opportunities, and others that arise in the future!”

Julee is a 2nd year in the Athletic Counseling program from Elizabethtown, PA. This summer, she’s working with Lancaster Inferno FC, an elite women’s soccer program competing in the USL W League! Julee is excited to have the opportunity to work with a high level team and support their athletes in building mental skills. Good luck, Julee!
