What a blessing to our community. We are thanking God today for the Springfield Soup Kitchen.

Behind every uniform is a person.

A police officer. A firefighter. An EMT. A dispatcher. A paramedic. A corrections officer. A family member. A neighbor.

Every day, these men and women step into situations most of us hope we'll never face. They carry responsibility, make difficult decisions, and serve our community in countless unseen ways.

As people of faith, we believe one of the greatest gifts we can offer is prayer.

This week, would you join our Prayer Canopy in praying for our first responders?

• For wisdom in every decision.
• For courage in difficult moments.
• For protection over their lives.
• For strength for their families.
• For peace after hard days.
• For God's presence to surround them wherever they serve.

In October, 2010 we purchased a new Sun Tandem Recumbent bicycle after years of riding our single upright bikes. In the next thirteen years, we accumulated almost 14,000 miles and came to see a remarkable overlap between riding a tandem bicycle and having a healthy marriage. If you've never ridden a tandem bicycle, imagine trying to dance with someone while balancing on a moving beam, climbing a hill, avoiding potholes, and agreeing on directions—all at the same time. A recipe for disaster.

We're embarrassed to say that some of our most intense arguments occurred on the Sun Tandem! In the next few minutes, you'll get a closer look inside one of the most life-changing activities of our lives and how it connects with having a healthy marriage.

What does a faith-based nonprofit have to do with public safety?

Quite a bit.

At the Nehemiah Foundation, we believe flourishing communities are built through relationships. That means creating spaces where people can listen, learn from one another, and work together for the good of everyone.

One way we live that out is through cross-sector collaboration. Our Executive Director, Amy Willmann, serves on the Community Police Advisory Team (CPAT), where community members and law enforcement leaders work together to strengthen communication, build trust, encourage accountability, and improve relationships across our city.

Another way we serve is through prayer.

Our Prayer Canopy ministry seeks to faithfully pray over our city, asking God to bring wisdom to leaders, peace to neighborhoods, protection to first responders, and hope to every corner of our community. We believe practical service and faithful prayer belong together. Both help build the kind of community where people can flourish.

Every community is stronger when neighbors know one another, families feel connected, and those who serve our city know they have the support of the people they protect.

That's why we're honored to participate in National Night Out.

At the Nehemiah Foundation, we believe building a safer community isn't the work of one organization—it's the result of neighbors, nonprofits, churches, public servants, law enforcement, first responders, businesses, and community leaders working together for the common good.

We also believe one of the greatest ways we can serve our city is through prayer. Our Prayer Canopy exists to cover our community—and those who faithfully serve it—in prayer, encouragement, and practical support.

Imagine you're a school counselor.

Just a few years ago, she might have spent hours making phone calls, hoping someone could help.

Together, they're partnering with school counselors, who are on the front lines every day caring for vulnerable students and families. Counselors identify and verify the needs. Churches respond with practical help, compassionate relationships, and the love of Christ.
