This weather is oppressive. High heat and humidity can really affect people who work outside, play outside, or people who are vulnerable such babies and the elderly.

Check out these tips, and feel free to share.

Hot and humid this week. Many Illinois counites have a heat advisory in effect.

Are you ready to take steps to stay cool when "feels like" temps might top 100° for most of you?

• Avoid strenuous activity during mid-day
• Use awnings or curtains indoors to deflect the sun
• Fans will move air around, but does not lower your temperature
• Use air conditioning inside your home or visit a store or local mall
• Know your local cooling centers in Illinois (https://keepcool.illinois.gov/)
• Never leave children or pets in a vehicle
• Get trained in first aid to help those with heat illness

With more rain possible through the weekend, be on the lookout for flash flooding and rising waterways. It doesn't take much water to flood your vehicle's engine, knock you over, or even sweep away your vehicle.

You don't know how deep the water is, what's in it, or how fast it's moving.

Turn around, don't drown!

Damaging winds are one of the risks (along with downpours and flash flooding) with the storm system that has entered Illinois and will affect us through the afternoon.

Plan to get into—and stay in—safe spaces indoors at any moment. And think about your commute.

Storms are possible in Illinois today. And the risk for severe weather increases as you look northeast. Please keep an eye on your local weather conditions and be ready to move to safety.
