Missouri Veteran Cemetery at Springfield, MO. Honoring Veterans for their service and sacrifice
From the initial concept of a Veterans cemetery program, one operational philosophy has remained constant; to honor our Veterans for their service and sacrifice. The Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Springfield is the result of a partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Missouri Veterans Commission. Realizing the National Cemetery in Springfield would soon approach full capacity, plans were made to ensure Veterans in southwest Missouri would have access to a Veterans cemetery. The result was the establishment of the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Springfield, with the first interment conducted on 10 January 2000. Situated on 60 tranquil acres, the cemetery has an approximate capacity of 30,000 gravesites. The cemetery also contains two attractive columbarium areas for the placement of cremains. The cemetery facilities include a committal shelter, administration and maintenance area, and paved walkways with benches for rest and meditation.

Last week, we had the privilege to honor the life of a former POW. Thank you to the United States Air Force and the several Veteran service organizations that showed up to help us lay this hero to rest.

Our cemetery office will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, in observance of Independence Day. The cemetery grounds will remain open. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. The cemetery office will be closed on Friday, June 19th, to observe Juneteenth, the end of slavery in the United States in 1865. The cemetery grounds will remain open. The office will reopen on Monday, June 22nd, at 8:00 a.m. Thank you.
