Safe Families for Children is a nonprofit, volunteer movement that gives hope and support to families in crisis. The trauma of child abuse and neglect can be devastating and have lasting consequences for a child. Many instances of abuse and neglect can be prevented if families in crisis had a support network of caring individuals to help them in a time of need. It is from this philosophy Safe Families for Children (SFFC) was born. In 2003, SFFC founder, Dave Anderson, found that if loving families can provide a safe and caring environment for a child at critical times, we can not only prevent harm to children, but we can enhance a parent's ability to provide what that child needs. Safe Families for Children (SFFC) is a national movement of compassion that gives hope to families in crisis. A network of volunteers provide safe, loving homes for parents to voluntarily have their children cared for while they restore stability in their own lives. Our dedication to family support, stabilization, and child abuse prevention is driven by responsibility for the well-being of children in our communities. SFFC partners with churches, local community agencies, volunteer families as well as government organizations across the country. The SFFC network provides essential extended family-like relationships to nearly 1,000 children and families annually.
Safe Families for Children (SFFC) depends on trusted, collaborative partners who share our commitment to strengthening families. We continue to expand nationally and globally through strategic partnerships to ensure that family support and stabilization are made accessible to every parent facing crisis, everywhere.

More families are reaching out. More referrals are coming in. Parents are calling because they need encouragement, connection, practical support, a Family Friend, or sometimes a safe place for their children during a difficult season.
That is a blessing, because it means families are finding the support they need, and I truly believe God is using the relationships and connections being built to make that happen.
“The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.” Matthew 9:37 KJV
That verse feels so fitting for where we are right now.
The harvest is coming in, and with that comes a greater need for people who are willing to step in and serve.
Maybe this isn’t your season to become a Host Family. That’s okay. One of our greatest needs right now is Family Friends!!! people willing to check in with a parent, grab a cup of coffee, offer encouragement, walk alongside them, and remind them they’re not alone.
Maybe you can serve as a Resource Friend. Maybe your church would welcome us to come share about Safe Families. Maybe you know someone who has been looking for a meaningful way to serve.
There is room for everyone to be part of this work.
The seeds have been planted. The harvest is beginning. Now we need the laborers. ❤️

By offering family‑focused prevention for parents facing crisis, the goal is simple and powerful: strengthen parenting, stabilize family functioning, keep children safely at home, and prevent unnecessary involvement in foster care.

Many families, even when doing ‘all the right things,’ are just one crisis away from major instability in their lives. Under-resourced communities leave families in the throes of hospitalization, unemployment, incarceration, substance abuse recovery, and other crises related to poverty without the resources and support to care for their children.
Every day, families wake up to a crisis they cannot handle, and their ability to both weather the storm and protect their children is threatened. Safe Families for Children (SFFC) was founded to solve this problem. We want to be that extended family when parents need us the most!

At Safe Families, we believe relationships are key in supporting families facing crisis. While resources are vital for families navigating difficult circumstances, it is also important for families to know they are not alone!

Happy Saturday & Labor Day Weekend! ❤️🇺🇸
As we head into this long weekend, I hope you’re able to slow down a little, enjoy your family, rest, laugh, eat some good food, and make a few memories together.
Labor Day is a time set aside to recognize the contributions and hard work of workers and it also makes me think about all the people in our community who work every day to keep their families going. Parents working, providing, caregiving, problem-solving, and sometimes simply doing everything they can to make it through a difficult season.
And sometimes, even the strongest families need a little support. ❤️
Maybe you have a little extra time, encouragement, or friendship to give. You don’t have to become a Host Family to make a difference. You can become a Family Friend, a Resource Friend, provide respite, or simply walk alongside a parent who needs someone in their corner.
As you enjoy your family this weekend, maybe take a moment to think about how you could come alongside another family in our community.
