Marion Ayer Crandall, 93, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow, Vermont. She was born on September 7, 1932, in Jamestown, New York. She was the daughter of Fred Grant Ayer and Wilmay Robins Ayer.

Marion was raised in Plymouth, Vermont, and went to High School in Ludlow and Springfield High School. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1951.

On October 21, 1951, she married Gordon Maurice Crandall who was home on leave from the Navy. They then moved to Berkeley, California to start their life together.

Marion worked for the Meals and Wheels Program in Springfield, Vermont. She delivered many meals to homebound people and brightened their day with her beautiful smile. Her grandchildren have fond memories of riding along with her while she delivered the meals. She also helped to organize all the other volunteers who delivered the meals. After working with this program, she became a caregiver for people who needed extra help and a companion. She enjoyed helping others to be able to stay in their homes as long as they could.

Some of Marion's favorite things to do were gardening, reading, golfing, and staying up on politics. She had many dogs in her life and they were a great pleasure to her. She spent many hours at her camp in Plymouth, Vermont, stopping at yard sales on the way for "bargains". When at her camp, time was spent with family at campfires and cookouts. These times were very special to her and she spent many hours celebrating with her loved ones. Family trips to the coast of Maine beaches were times remembered and cherished by all.

She is survived by her four children: Susan (Elwin) Crandall Peterson, Kathryn (Ronald) Crandall Westney, Rodney (Susan) Crandall, and David Crandall; and grandchildren: Jeremy (Danielle) Pinders, Angela (Chad) Westney Sharrow, Jennifer (Eric) Westney Linn, Sarah Westney, Forest Crandall, and Robin Crandall; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Marion was predeceased by her parents, husband, son-in-law Elwin Peterson, and four siblings and their spouses: sisters Margaret (Vincent) Ayer Silliman, Dorothy (James) Ayer Caporale, Virginia (Richard) Ayer Vorba, and brother William Steven Ayer.

Marion had a softness and a strength inside her that could be felt by all. She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Brookwood Estate and the Gill Odd Fellow Home for their kindness and wonderful care provided during her stay with them.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Davis Memorial Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with a committal following at the Plymouth Notch Cemetery.

Doreen Yvonne Watkins 70, died on Monday July 27, 2026 at her home in Springfield. She was born November 16, 1955 in Bellows Falls, Vermont the daughter of James I. and Elsie M. (Danforth) Ballentine. She graduated from Green Mountain Union High School.

Doreen was employed at B.J. Bricker’s Restaurant in Springfield, Okemo Mountain Resort, Stratton Mountain Resort, and was an aerobics instructor at the Springfield Racquet Club. Most recently Doreen managed the Best Dressed Laundry in Bellows Falls, Vermont for 15 years.

She enjoyed music, and sunning by the pool in the summer months.

She is survived by her son Jared Stockman, daughter Aimee Streeter, five grandchildren: Haley Streeter, Aubry Aiken, Greyson Aiken, Breana Stockman, and Jacob Stockman.

She was predeceased by two sons Chadwick Stockman, and Benjamin Watkins.

At her request there will be no services.

In Loving Memory of Rosaelia Bensley

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Rosa Bensley, who passed away at the age of 35.

She was a devoted mother, cherished daughter, loving sister, and treasured friend. Her beautiful heart, caring nature, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a way of making others feel seen, valued, and loved, and her kindness will never be forgotten. She was deeply loved by her family, and the memories she created with them will be held close forever.

She was preceded in death by her beloved Uncle Felix and Aunt Betty, her godmother Mary Ann (Hartman), both her grandmothers, Maria Castro, and Maria Perez as well as other family members that have passed, whose love and memories she carried with her throughout her life.

She leaves behind her precious children, Benji, Braiden, Josiah, and Jada, who were the greatest joy of her life. As well as her girlfriend, LaShawnda, and her stepchildren. She is also survived by her loving mother and father, Grace Bensley and Eddie Cruz, her sisters, Shanice Nieves, Maria Perez and her brothers, Justin Gomez, Jeremy Gomez, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Although our hearts are broken by her loss, we are grateful for the love she shared and the countless lives she touched. Her strength, compassion, laughter, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She will be deeply missed every day, but her love will remain with us always. Though she is no longer by our side, her memory will be a source of comfort, and her legacy will live on through her children and all those whose lives she enriched.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed. We kindly ask that all guests wear black attire to honor and celebrate the life of Rosa Bensley. Thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.

Charlotte H. Clough 98, died Thursday July 30, 2026 at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow, Vermont. She was born February 8, 1928 in Springfield, Vermont the daughter of Maurice and Blanche (Knowles) Hitchcock.
She attended Springfield schools, graduating from Springfield High School.

On March 14, 1953 Charlotte married Urban D. Clough in Springfield, Vermont. He predeceased her on May 5, 2009.

Charlotte was employed in Administration at the Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, Vermont.

Charlotte and Urban enjoyed traveling for many years with the Springfield Senior Center to Alaska, Hawaii, Bermuda, Bahamas and many US States over the years. They also enjoyed several years wintering in Florida.

She enjoyed candlepin bowling, playing bingo, knitting and crafting and getting together with friends over the years.

She is survived by her daughter Shirley Roy and her husband Richard, grandchildren Chad Westney (Holly), Kelly Westney (Melissa), great grandchildren Elijah Cass and Lexus. And by lifelong friends Darlene and Joe Winot.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday August 6, 2026 at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vermont. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.

Lucy Ann (Marro) Lester 70 died unexpectedly at her home in Springfield on Sunday June 14, 2026. She was born March 28, 1956, in Jamaica, Vermont the daughter of Alfred W. and Ethel I. (Stark) Marro. She grew up in Proctorsville where she developed a passionate sense of family and community.

After graduating from high school and business school, Lucy dedicated many years to working at Jiffy Mart in Chester and Springfield Hospital; touching countless lives through her kindness and diligence.

On August 21, 1999, Lucy married Anthony (Tony) in Weathersfield, VT. Together they made their home in Springfield, sharing their lives with cherished furbabies and welcoming Lucy’s son and daughter-in-law for a time.

She is survived by her husband Anthony Lester, and by one son Billy Putnam.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Hugh Erling Lund, age 74, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH, with his wife at his side.

Hugh was born on November 30th, 1951, in Long Beach, CA. He grew up in The Bronx, before eventually settling in Springfield, VT.

He is survived by his wife Carla (Tarbox), their sons Adam (Tabitha), Erik (Rose), and Michael, and grandchildren Isaiah, Natalie, Olivia, and Cassandra; his cousins Robert (Margaret), Ryan, and Alison (Samuel); many relatives in Norway; long-time friends Jim, Joe, Kevin, Lee, and Bob; and their remarkable neighbor, Marjory.

He was predeceased by his parents, CPT Elling and Mary (Morrisey) Lund, and his cousin, Frances (Merle).

After graduating from Cathedral Prep High School in Manhattan, he attended Cathedral College in Douglaston, NY, and graduated from SUNY in Albany, NY. in 1974.

Hugh worked for the State of Vermont Agricultural Department from 1979 until retiring in 2021. After he taught himself to cook, he worked part-time at the Springfield Royal Diner, then winter weekends at the Okemo Base Lodge Cafe and summers at the Coleman Brook Tavern for many years.

He was a Springfield Parks and Rec volunteer baseball coach for his· sons from T-Ball until they reached high school, taught them how to cross-country ski, and attended many school games of baseball, basketball, soccer, and cross-country meets. During his retirement, he enjoyed visiting and talking with his sons and grandchildren, a nice glass of wine, a shot of Aquavit, and a well-cooked meal.

There will be a celebration of his life at 236 Old Farm Drive, Pomfret, VT on Sunday, July 26 at 2:30 pm.

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Janet (Barrett) McCann, 88, of East Hampton, CT. Born June 30, 1938 in Weathersfield, VT to the late George A. Barrett and Margaret (Allen) Barrett Stone. She passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2026 after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Janet was married to her loving and devoted high school sweetheart, Curtis McCann, on March 29, 1958. They had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this year. Janet was the oldest of three siblings. She is pre-deceased by her brothers George Barrett, Greg Stone, and her great-grandson Jack Wolf.

Curt and Janet were the owners of Midtown Kawasaki in Rocky Hill, CT for 42 years. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Janet knew she had a special place in her heart for the sport of dirt bike racing and the racing community. Janet was a devoted member of numerous motorcycle clubs within New England, including SRCR, NESC, NETRA, and NEMA. She spent countless hours at the track, supporting riders, families, and events with so much dedication. So many racers and families benefited from the time and care she gave to the sport without asking for anything in return. The dirtbike community won’t be the same without her, but her memory will live on every time the gate drops and another race begins. She was a longtime member of East Hampton American Legion and the Moose Club. She also enjoyed country line dancing, playing bingo, cards, and board games with friends and family.

More than anything, Janet will be remembered for her kindness and unwavering love for her family. Janet was the proud and loving mother of three children – Jodi (McCann) Wolf of East Hampton, CT, Bryan McCann of East Hampton, CT, and Randy McCann (Kathleen) of Haverill, MA. In addition to her children, she had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her beyond measure.

She was cherished and so loved by her grandchildren, Erin Jump (Ryan), Michael Wolf (Tabatha), Tracy Rall (Steve), Kristin Goodwin (Daniel), Kailie Cambridge (Lowreenzo), Noah McCann, and Eli McCann. She also beamed with so much joy and loved to spend as much time as possible with her ten great-grandchildren; Makayla, Hayden, Everleigh, Kendall, Addison, Mason, Bryson, Isaac, Raelynn, and Bentley.

Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Monday July 20th from 10:00AM until 12:00PM. A funeral service will take place at 12:00PM in the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Lake View Cemetery at a later date.

John Berlenbach, Jr. died on July 10th at Mt. Ascutney Hospital from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

John was born March 14, 1944, in Quakertown Pennsylvania, second son of John Berlenbach and Virginia Strawn Berlenbach. His family moved to Long Island, NY in 1957, and settled in Hicksville, where he graduated from Hicksville High School in 1962, then graduated from Harpur College, S.U.N.Y. in 1966, followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio in 1967. He married his college sweetheart, Betty Buehl, on August 27, 1966. After their year in Oberlin, they moved to N.J. where John taught 7th grade math for three years in Princeton Middle School, and then, because a student asked him what one did with math, career wise, and he wasn't sure of the answer, he took a leave of absence from Princeton, and worked at Prudential Insurance Company in the corporate office in Newark, assuming he'd find a good answer and return to teaching...but as it happened, liked working at the Pru, and stayed, working as a financial analyst. While in N.J. they had two sons, John Michael, born 1/16/69 and Peter Joseph, born 2/7/1. He took early retirement in 1995, so he and Betty could move to Vermont, a dream of many years, where they farmed, raising most of their meat, vegetables, and fruits on their farm in Weathersfield. In Vermont, he worked at various jobs until he found the job he wanted, working for Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, as part of a team of four, who reviewed all the bills and recovered underpayments from insurance companies, to the benefit of the hospital and the patients. He retired from DHMC in 2014.

In 2025, he moved to Cedar Hill Memory Care Unit with Alzheimer’s disease.

John was a member of St. James Church, Woodstock, Friends of Hereford Cathedral, UK, the Weathersfield Historical Society, and the Buick Club of America.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Peter, his older brother, Thomas, and younger sister Jill. He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Betty L. Berlenbach, son John Michael, grandchildren Peter and Laura, all of Weathersfield, Vt., His brother Daniel and family of California, brother in law Harlon Dalton of New Haven, Ct. Cousin Virginia Tunis and family of Georgia, Sister in law, Lynda Esposito and family, of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be calling hours at Davis Memorial Chapel on Thursday, July 16th, from 10 a.m. until noon. A Requiem Eucharist will be held at St. James' Church in Woodstock at 3 p.m. on that same day. John's remains will be buried in Trinity All Saints Cemetery, Princeton, N.J. later this summer...In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in John's name to St. James Episcopal Church, in Woodstock, St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Springfield, Friends of Hereford Cathedral, Hereford, UK, or your favorite charity. Dr. Lee Allison Crawford, whom John trained to carry the processional cross when she was a graduate student at Princeton, all of whom have provided John and his family with superlative support and care during this difficult time, and Scott and Angela and the staff at Davis Memorial Chapel for their calm and professional assistance and care.
