The City of Kettering is considering closing the Kettering Ice Arena as part of its Parks & Recreation Master Plan. For years, this rink has been home to Dayton Stealth hockey and countless memories for hundreds of local families. As the largest user of the facility, the Dayton Hockey Association is actively advocating to keep the rink open, but it will take our entire hockey community to make our voices heard.

2026-2027 Dayton Stealth Hockey Coach’s Spotlight 🏒

Coach Johnny Chase– 14U A1

🏒Tell us a little about your hockey background and coaching experience:

I grew up playing travel minor hockey in the Dresden Minor Hockey Association in Ontario. I was fortunate to play on competitive A1 and A2 teams from Novice through Midget, including winning a Tournament MVP as a Bantam. Those years taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and teamwork.
This will be my sixth year coaching youth hockey. I’ve progressed through Learn to Play, 8U, 10U, and most recently served as assistant coach for a highly competitive 12U AA team in the 2025-26 season, where I focused heavily on defensive development and systems play. I’m very excited to now be coaching the 14U team for the 2026-27 season.

❤What do you love most about coaching?

I love watching players improve and gain confidence. There’s nothing better than breaking down a skill, watching a player finally “get it,” and seeing that moment of pride on their face. I really enjoy blending team systems and strategy with individualized 1-on-1 instruction to help each athlete reach their potential — whether they’re a beginner or a highly competitive player. Coaching is about developing strong athletes and even stronger young people who carry the lessons of hockey into life.

🥅What are you most excited for this year?

I’m really looking forward to coaching the 14U group this season. It’s going to be a fun and challenging year as the players continue developing their skills and compete at a higher level. I’m especially excited that my twin boys will be on the team — getting to coach them and their teammates while building a strong, unified group is going to be a special experience. I can’t wait to help this team grow together on and off the ice.
