50 middle school students joined creative forces with Studio Cera Marie to design and paint a mural that reflects the joy, diversity, strength and heart of Hayward Middle School 🙌

Hayward students wanted their courtyard to embody the values of the people who fill their halls, students and staff alike. The lively colors represent the energy, joy and diversity found in their school. The hexagons found at the start of the mural emphasize how well Hayward works together, their strength and the sense of belonging you feel in classes and at work. The waves of color guiding you through the space are meant to be create a calming effect where folks can experience peace and growth. Oh, and the doodles? Each participant created their very own personal mark that they felt represents them, allowing them to sign their work in a meaningful way.

On display now at the Springfield Museum of Art (Ohio)

In a fast-paced world full of keyboard clicks and calendar commitments, ten young women and their mother figures joined Project Jericho and took the time to be together, write together, and create together. Local artist and educator Michelle Carn helped the women explore writing activities that led them to learn more about one another and themselves. Vicki Murphy, a Columbus-based artist, guided the women in the creation of multimedia butterfly wings that are unique, yet fit together. Their butterfly wings on display in the lobby of the Springfield Museum of Art through the month of May.

This program was a reminder that in this wild and busy life we have to connect with and lean on each other. Because everyone needs something to hold on to.
