Before I thank anyone else, I must recognize the five incredible women who stood beside me and helped make our inaugural HBCU Student Send Off & Alumni Mixer possible. They were far more than a host and panelists.

To Ayanna Crawford, M.Ed., Alysia Cutting, Shanequa "Niecey" Bruce-Fryar, MSW, Rhonda Y. Jacobs, MSW, and Larissa Thornton, M.Ed.: You will forever hold a special place in my heart as my Fabulous Five.

When I first had the vision for the HBCU Network of Western Massachusetts, I was building it alone. Somewhere along the journey, these five extraordinary women stepped in and never let me carry it by myself again.

They gave their time, their talents, their wisdom, their patience, their encouragement, and their unwavering support. They believed in this organization before anyone knew what it would become. They believed in me on the days when I questioned myself.

Because of them, this event far exceeded anything I could have imagined. It simply would not have been the success it was without each of them.

I could not have asked for a stronger group of women to stand beside me, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside them as we grow the HBCU Network of Western Massachusetts together.

I loved hearing the story of your parents meeting at Spelman and Morehouse, which makes you a SpelHouse Baby. 🩵♥️

I have admired your work from afar for years. Your commitment to community has always inspired me. When I first reached out, I simply invited you to attend as a guest. I never expected anything more. Instead, you believed in this vision so deeply that you offered to serve as our host.

You brought professionalism, warmth, energy, and encouragement to every step of this journey. You even helped prepare me for the media, something I didn't even know I needed until you stepped in. You were the perfect person to guide our very first event. Thank you for believing in me.

You were one of the very first alumni I reached out to. Even before we met in person, one thing was abundantly clear, you stand ten toes down for Tuskegee University. Your love for your alma mater is contagious, and your story reminded everyone in the room why HBCUs leave such a lasting impact on our lives.

But I still have one question... How in the world did y'all survive without a Walmart?

Thank you for making us laugh, for inspiring us, and for representing Tuskegee so beautifully. ♥️💛

You didn't know me. You simply saw one of my posts, liked our page, registered to attend, and then sent me an email asking how you could help. That says everything about your character.
Without hesitation, you offered your time, your talents, and your heart to help launch an organization that had never even hosted an event before. Thank you for believing in a vision that wasn't yours simply because you believed it mattered. I'll never forget that.🩵🤍

I first met you when I was a child and reconnecting with you a few months ago has truly been a blessing. It was such a joy meeting your daughters, three accomplished HBCU alumnae, two from my beloved Howard University and one from Delaware State University.

As both an educator and a parent who has successfully guided three children through the HBCU experience, your perspective was invaluable. I know the parents in that room left feeling more prepared and more confident because you were willing to share your family's journey.

Thank you for pouring into our families. ❤️💙🩵❤️

I truly believe God places people in our lives exactly when we need them most. Meeting you reminded me of that.

I was terrified to put this event out into the world. I kept wondering if anyone would take it seriously. If anyone would come. You said to me, "Manifest it. Everything will work out." I held onto those words. You didn't just encourage me. You got to work.

You printed our programs, shared our flyers, brought bottled water, helped with setup, and supported me every step of the way. Thank you for reminding me to believe in what I had already started. ♥️🖤

To my beloved Fabulous Five...there truly are no words that could ever fully express my gratitude. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for believing in this vision. Thank you for helping build something that is already changing lives.

This was only the beginning, and I cannot wait to continue building the future of the HBCU Network of Western Massachusetts alongside each of you.

If you have students who are considering college, especially an HBCU, we invite you to join us for the HBCU Network of Western Massachusetts’ Inaugural HBCU Student Send Off & Alumni Mixer.

This free community event is designed to educate, encourage, and inspire the next generation of college students.

Students will have the opportunity to:
🎓 Meet HBCU students and alumni from colleges and universities across the country.
🎤 Hear firsthand about the HBCU experience from alumni and parents of HBCU graduates.
💬 Ask questions about college life, academics, campus culture, and the transition from high school to college.
🤝 Build meaningful connections with mentors, peers, and professionals.
🧠 Participate in HBCU trivia for a chance to win prizes.
❤️ Learn how higher education, leadership, and community service go hand in hand.

We also invite attendees to bring a new school supply donation to support Springfield Public Schools students as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

This event is open to high school students, current HBCU students, alumni, families, educators, counselors, and community members.

We would greatly appreciate your help in sharing this opportunity with your students and families.
