Delaware Elementary School
This is the OFFICIAL account for Delaware Elementary School. Delaware Elementary is a very special place for learning.
Located in a beautiful neighborhood with big trees and older homes, Delaware is home to kindergarten through fifth grade classes and serves as a Springfield Public Schools site for several programs for children with special needs. The children and adults at Delaware learn how special each individual is as they experience school activities together and grow to respect people with all levels of abilities.

We are so excited to see our incoming kindergartners in just two weeks! Students will get to participate in a building tour, get to connect with their classmates, and have some play time.
Parents will get to hear from the principal, nurse, and community partners, and get to hear specifics about school from their classroom teacher. We can't wait to see you all there!

We know that making memories as a family matters! We would encourage families to consider scheduling vacations around school breaks whenever possible. We want to ensure we also help our students avoid missing valuable learning experiences, classroom community, and provide consistency. Here you will find our scheduled school breaks for the 26-27 school year. We appreciate your consideration and partnership.

Happy Throwback Thursday!
This week, we are highlighting Masked Reader. Mrs. Pogue, our librarian, strives to create innovative experiences that help build a love for reading in all of our students. Mrs. Pogue worked with Delaware teachers to collect fun facts about them, a book they enjoy reading, and a mask to match it. Students had access to listen to the story at home and at school. Students collaborated with their peers and teacher to guess who each of the mystery readers was. Check out the fun facts and learn a bit about the staff! Want to listen again?! Below is the website.

Happy Throwback Thursday!
This week for Throwback Thursday, we are highlighting a collaboration that we had with the Chick-fil-A Club at Glendale High School. The club provided and read zoo-themed books in all of our classrooms here at Delaware. Each student got a grab bag that included a book. Delaware is always open to collaborating with other schools to provide meaningful and educationally rich experiences to our SPS students. Thank you to the Chick- fil-A club at Glendale for modeling leadership, inclusion, and a love of reading for our students!

Happy Welcome to Delaware Wednesday! ๐๐๐
Join me in welcoming Katie Detherage!
Ms. Detherage is thrilled to be joining the Delaware team as a 4th-grade teacher! She is especially excited to work alongside such a caring and dedicated group of educators who are passionate about helping students learn, grow, and succeed.
She brings nine years of teaching experience to Delaware Elementary. She taught 3rd grade for five years in Oklahoma and has spent the last four years teaching both 4th and 2nd grade in Arkansas. She loves creating a positive and engaging classroom environment where students feel supported and encouraged to do their best.
Outside of school, she enjoys running, reading, exploring new coffee shops, and taking walks with my dog, Pippa.
She can't wait to meet her students and their families and is looking forward to a wonderful 2026โ2027 school year!

Check out the new addition to our playground! ๐
Delawareโs AAC playground communication board will help all students feel included, connect with peers, and express themselves freely.
Speak. Play. Connect! ๐
Jamie Kessinger had the dream as a parent of students here at Delaware, that all students would have the ability to communicate and she asked our SLP, Tara Conway for help in making it happen. Tara wrote the proposal through the Foundation for SPS Pick-A-Project for $3000.
We had two generous donors, Salter Family and then The Turner Family Foundation. Thank you to all these people who made this happen for our students.
