🧬 Your family's cancer history could tell you something important about your own health.🧬

Some inherited genetic variants can increase the risk of gynecologic cancers.

For example, BRCA1 and BRCA2 variants can substantially increase ovarian/fallopian tube cancer risk, while Lynch syndrome can increase the risk of endometrial and ovarian cancers.

Ask questions about your family history:
Who had cancer?
What kind?
How old were they when diagnosed?

If your family history suggests increased risk, ask your healthcare provider whether genetic counseling may be appropriate.

Sometimes knowing your family's past can help protect your future. 💙

🚨⚠️ Do you know which gynecologic cancers have routine screening tests?⚠️🚨

This is important: the Pap test and HPV test are used for cervical cancer screening.

They do NOT screen for ovarian, uterine, vulvar or vaginal cancers.

There is currently no recommended routine screening test for ovarian cancer in average-risk women without symptoms.

That's why recommended cervical screening, symptom awareness, regular healthcare visits, and knowing your personal risk factors all matter.

Ask your healthcare provider which screenings are appropriate for your age and health history.
