Transcendence is, or can be made, not merely remedial but positive; is relevant even when nothing especially needs relinquishing.

In Maslow's formulation, transcendence isn't merely detachment; it includes orientation beyond the self, toward service, justice, truth, beauty, the sacred, and others' benefit and actualization.

Question not just what you can get beyond, but what you can serve that is beyond you.
