"Disability only becomes a tragedy when society fails to provide the things we need to lead our lives."
— Judy Heumann
As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, let's remember that inclusion is about more than good intentions. It's about creating communities where everyone has the opportunity to work, contribute, and belong.
At neba, we're proud to be part of that work every day. Thank you for celebrating Disability Pride Month with us—and for believing that opportunity should be open to everyone.
If you believe inclusion makes our communities stronger, follow neba and help us keep moving forward.

Disability Pride Month reminds us to celebrate the talents, perspectives, and contributions of people with disabilities.
Now comes the important part.
Creating inclusive communities isn't something we do for one month each year. It's a commitment we make every day—by challenging assumptions, creating opportunities, and ensuring everyone has the chance to work and belong.
At neba, that's the work we're proud to do all year long.
Today marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), landmark legislation that helped change what opportunity can look like for millions of Americans.
The ADA removed many legal barriers, but building truly inclusive communities is ongoing work. Accessibility, equal opportunity, and meaningful employment don't happen by chance. They happen because people, employers, organizations, and communities choose inclusion every day.
At neba, we're proud to support individuals as they build careers, gain independence, and contribute their talents in workplaces across our communities. Every person deserves the chance to work, belong, and succeed.
As we celebrate the ADA today, let's continue creating workplaces and communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

"Abled does not mean enabled. Disabled does not mean less abled."

Disability Pride Month challenges us to look beyond assumptions and recognize the strengths, talents, and contributions every person brings to our communities.
Disability does not define potential. Opportunity, inclusion, and belonging help people reach it.
As we approach the anniversary of the ADA, let's continue building communities where everyone has the chance to succeed.
If you believe everyone deserves that opportunity, like this post, follow neba, and help us keep the conversation moving forward.

What does the ADA mean to you? Here are some of our thoughts.

Thirty-six years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act helped open doors to greater opportunity, access, and inclusion.
Today, those doors must remain open.
Progress is never something we can take for granted. It requires communities, employers, policymakers, and advocates who are committed to protecting the rights, dignity, and opportunities of people with disabilities.
At neba, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work, contribute, and belong. As we approach the ADA anniversary this week, let's recommit to building a future where inclusion continues to move forward—not backward.
If you believe those doors should stay open for everyone, give us a like, follow our page, and help us spread the message that opportunity belongs to all.

We want to acknowledge the fear and anxiety our community has felt this week, but your voices made an impact.
Over the past 48 hours, 1,100 of you mobilized through calls, letters, and action alerts in support of critical changes to the healthcare workplace violence bill. The Arc team was engaged in frequent debate, discussions, and conversations with legislators.
Because of your advocacy, the Senate adopted Amendment #8, which prioritizes de-escalation and community-based alternatives.
Additionally, the Senate adopted a redrafted version of Amendment #5, which secures vital protections for our community. This new language achieves several crucial changes:
- A One-Year Stay on Arrest Provisions: The implementation of arrest provisions in group homes is paused for one year.
- Mandated Accountability: During this one-year period, a formal report must be completed to address alternative appropriate placements, resources and staff training available specific to group homes.
We held the line. Our community’s concerns have been heard, and we will continue to shape the findings of this report to ensure our values are fully protected. Thank you to Senator Robyn Kennedy and Senator Cindy Friedman for filing these needed amendments and working with us so closely.
The bill now moves to a Conference Committee to reconcile the House and Senate versions. We are not giving up. Rest assured that The Arc will actively be working to make the final bill stronger. This is a critical window to ensure the final legislation safeguards our community.
We are already preparing the next phase of our campaign, and we will need your strength once again. Stay tuned: we will be in touch shortly with information on how to keep the pressure on. Maura Sullivan Nora Bent
Work is about more than a paycheck. It's about purpose, confidence, independence, and the opportunity to contribute.
At neba, we believe everyone deserves the chance to find meaningful employment and build a future they can be proud of. When people are supported to succeed at work, they gain more than a job—they gain dignity, connection, and the freedom to live life on their own terms.
"Work is about more than making a living, as vital as that is. It's fundamental to human dignity, to our sense of self-worth as useful, independent, free people."
Every person has something valuable to offer. Together, we can create communities where everyone has the opportunity to work, belong, and thrive.

We join with The Arc of Massachusetts in urging you to reach out to your State Senator.
🚨 The Massachusetts Senate is expected to vote this week on legislation that could have serious unintended consequences for people with IDD and autism.
While protecting healthcare workers is essential, the bill must also recognize that disability-related behaviors should not be criminalized.
✅ Support Amendment #5 to exclude group homes and other IDD/autism service settings.
✅ Support Amendment #8 to prioritize de-escalation and community-based alternatives.
