Marc Bell is a retired IL State Police Master Sergeant and 28 year Springfield resident running as the Democratic candidate for Sangamon County Sheriff. Marc E.

Bell is a retired Illinois State Police Master Sergeant. Marc was born November 16, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up on the west side of Chicago. Marc attended and graduated from Midwestern Christian Academy and Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. He has a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from Chicago State University. Marc joined the Illinois State Police in June 1985 at the age of 21. He was assigned to numerous units across the state, which included patrol, investigation, and intelligence. Marc retired from the Illinois State Police on December 31, 2013 with over 28 years of dedicated service. Marc has been married to Aissa for 32 years. They have three adult daughters: Falen, Marchay, and Lachay; and one grandson Marc. Marc and his family relocated from Chicago to the Springfield area in September of 1997. He became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in April 2000. While chapter president in 2007, Marc was instrumental in establishing the Mu Delta Lambda Charitable Foundation, which promotes higher education, healthful living, and affordable housing. The Mu Delta Lambda Charitable Foundation has awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships to Springfield area students. Marc was appointed to the Chatham Police and Fire Commission by Chatham Village President Tom Gray in 2009 and served as a Commissioner from 2009-2011. Marc is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. He is on the Executive Board of the NOBLE Land of Lincoln Chapter. Marc was a member of the following Labor Unions: The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union; The Fraternal Order of Police, Troopers Lodge 41, and the Teamsters. He served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Illinois Capitol Region. Marc is also a mentor at Du Bois Elementary School in Springfield School District #186 and is a School Resource Officer for the Ball-Chatham School District #5.

On Sunday afternoon I attended the Annual Pan-African Celebration in Rushville. IL. The attendees, music and food made it an amazing cultural experience.

Thank you so much to all the volunteers that came out Saturday to make our Canvass Launch a huge success. After knocking doors we attended the Trades and Labor Picnic in Chatham; the Springfield Oyster and B**r Festival and the Auburn Labor Day Celebration.

Friday Night Heat!!! Last night was pretty toasty in Pleasant Plains for the Cardinals vs Maroa-Forsyth Trojans football game. The teams and the dedicated fans braved the heat for another great game.

We had a busy Saturday. We knocked doors in Springfield near Centennial Park. Then we stopped by the New Beginnings Apostolic Church Block Party and the Union Baptist Church 155th Anniversary Cookout. We ended the day at the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Fish Fry.
