Great Egret portrait in B&W. Taken at Huntley Meadows Park. Processing photos of Great Egrets into B&W is a great way to draw attention to the details in their white plumage! I like the way this high contrast photo highlights the bird's eye and the fine details of its feathers. What do you think?

I was drawn to a moment where a single person sits in an open doorway of a subway car, brightly lit while the crowd rushes past. Another man waits patiently on the platform providing another contrast with the people walking by! Hexagonal tiles and strong lines pull your eye toward that quiet spot, and the limited tonal range brings out the textures and light. It feels like a calm pause in the middle of a rush. Walking along the Bayview Trail at Mason Neck State Park I noticed a "lump" on top of a dead tree that looked a little out of place. When I zoomed in with my camera, I was a little surprised to see it was a raccoon sitting on top of the snag! It just looked at me as I took several photographs. Enjoy!

Great experience observing and photographing mother and two young River Otters at Mason Neck State Park! The young otters were making a chirping sound that was so cute! What a surprise when this family surfaced in the marsh very close to the trail. Young River Otters typically stay with their mothers for about 9-12 months. When first born the mother will chase the father away. The mother will sometimes allow father back when they are older.
