Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission

When you flush the toilet or run the faucet in the Eugene-Springfield area, that used water most likely goes to the MWMC’s Regional Water Pollution Control Facility to be cleaned. The treatment plant and associated facilities operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to collect and treat wastewater from homes, businesses, and industries before returning the cleaned water to the Willamette River. We clean an average of 35 million gallons of wastewater every day. The Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission (MWMC) is a regional partnership of the cities of Eugene and Springfield, and Lane County government that provides high-quality wastewater services to the Eugene-Springfield area. 🚒 Training close to home helps keep our community safer!
Last week, Eugene Springfield Fire’s Fire Station 11 crew was at the MWMC Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant getting in some required training drills.
Station 11 serves the River Road area all the way north to Beacon Road. Instead of traveling to a training yard farther away, the crew was able to partner with MWMC for a simple drill: running water through their hoses into a field.
It might not sound complicated, but training close to their service area means firefighters can spend less time traveling and more time staying ready to respond when our community needs them. 💪
We’re proud to partner with our local first responders and help support the important work they do to keep our community safe. ❤️

Emily Bradley, Environmental Analyst with the City of Springfield working on behalf of the MWMC, was selected this year for the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association (PNCWA) WAVE program – and this week she presented with her team at the annual conference in Spokane!
Emily's group presentation titled Raising Awareness and Promoting the Water Industry reported trends and recommendations for water industry professionals looking to cultivate talent and attract, train, and retain the next generation. On behalf of the MWMC: congratulations to Emily and the entire WAVE cohort of young and emerging water professionals – you make us proud!

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a wastewater treatment plant operator? Not only does it take a love for the environment, but it also takes grit, problem-solving skills, team spirit, and a dash of humor (because... well, you get it).
In this Lookout Eugene-Springfield article, MWMC treatment plant operator Kevin Kline shared his story and a few behind-the-scenes at the Eugene Springfield Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, and we think it's a piece worth sharing!
“Figuring out what is inefficient and trying to correct that or at least make it better, that’s what I love about this job,” Kline said. “It’s just like these little things that you can make work better. There’s a manual for all of the equipment, but being an operator, your job is to kind of figure out exactly how you can make something work the best way.”

Did you know? August is National Water Quality Month! 💧
Clean water is essential to healthy, livable communities. From drinking water and stormwater to wastewater, many different systems work together to protect the water we all depend on.
That’s the idea behind One Water—looking at our water as one connected system and recognizing how local utilities, governments and community partners work together to keep it clean.
This video, created by the MWMC in partnership with our local drinking water providers and local governments, explores the many ways we work together to protect water quality in our community.
Watch and learn how it all connects! 🌎
