Readings for the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost are Isaiah 55:6–9; Philippians 1:12–14, 19–30 and Matthew 20:1–16.

On the surface, the parable of the laborers in the vineyard seems wrong. Shouldn’t the worker receive the wages he or she deserves for his or her time and labor? It offends our sense of fair play that one who worked less should receive the same as one who worked more.

However, if we focus instead on the generosity of the vineyard owner, we get a very different perspective.

God’s mercy is not the reward for our labor but a pure gift of grace given to those who deserve none of His kindness.

The Lord does what none of us would do—forgives all our sins, no matter how great, and bestows upon us the mercy and salvation we did nothing to earn and could never deserve. How can anyone begrudge Him such generosity?

Today we celebrate 20 years of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nixa!

On September 17, 2006, Redeemer held its First Worship Service in Nixa. Today, we give thanks to God for 20 years of worship, fellowship, ministry, and sharing Christ in our community.

Mark your calendar! Join us for a special Combined Worship Service on Sunday, September 27, at 9:30 AM at our Nixa Campus. We look forward to worshiping together! Springfield Campus will be normal service times of 8:00 AM & 10:45 AM.
