😱You guys, I really struggle with my skin, and evidence-based natural acne remedies are always on my mind!
🎉If you want to support acne naturally, the best-supported options are tea tree oil and zinc.
Tea tree oil has the most research among natural topicals and may help reduce mild to moderate acne lesions, though it can irritate skin and works more slowly than Rx products.
🥇How to use tea tree oil:
Never apply it undiluted.
Mix 1–2 drops with a noncomedogenic carrier oil or moisturizer.
Patch test first.
Apply to blemishes with a cotton swab or pad.
Start once daily, then increase to twice daily if tolerated.
💎How to use zinc:
Zinc is usually taken as a supplement for acne rather than applied topically.
Check the product label and talk with a clinician before using higher doses.
It may take 6–12 weeks to see benefits.
⭐*If you take zinc long term, it should be taken with copper to reduce the risk of deficiency. Many brands combine them.*
⭐If zinc upsets your stomach, take it with food.
💡I also like clary sage oil!
Clary sage oil is sometimes used in diluted topical blends because it may have calming, anti-inflammatory, or mild antibacterial properties. The evidence for acne is limited, so it should not be considered a primary acne treatment. (It did get rid of a chronic cystic lesion years ago on my chin, though!)
🤷A few botanical ingredients, like green tea extracts, also show promise, but the evidence is less consistent.
🤞A few popular “natural” acne fixes do not have strong evidence and can even irritate the skin, including apple cider vinegar and undiluted essential oils.
A simple integrative approach:
💧Cleanse gently twice daily.
✨Use noncomedogenic skincare.
🌴Consider tea tree oil or zinc (+copper) for mild acne.
⭐If using clary sage, keep it diluted and use it only as a supportive option.
⚡Avoid harsh scrubs and over-drying products.
🩺Escalate to medical treatment if acne is inflamed, persistent, or scarring.
📝Natural can be helpful, but evidence matters. Now, there is always a limit on "alternative medicine" studies due to the lack of money to be made -- so if it's safe and working for you, don't let me stop you!
☎️Get in touch if medical treatment or more info is needed - CocreationMD can include your skin in your integrative treatment plan!
🪄We can also customize your daily multivitamin to address your skincare concerns!

You might have heard that fiber lowers cholesterol and is good for your heart...
A. How in the world?!
B. Can you just take a supplement?
Psyllium, beta-glucan, and other SOLUBLE fibers can support your body in many different ways.
One reason they help cholesterol is that soluble fiber binds bile acids in the gut, so the body has to pull more cholesterol from the blood to make new bile. That can lower LDL over time.
(HACK: LDL is bad, and it starts with an L because you want it LOW... HDL = GOOD = want it HIGH)
Overall, what's so great about fiber?
📉Binds bile acids and helps lower LDL.
🎂Slows digestion and blunts glucose spikes.
💩Improves stool consistency and regularity. (Chronic diarrhea, be gone!)
🤤Help you feel fuller longer.
So, how much do I need, Doc?
🎖️Aim for about 25–30 grams of fiber per day for most adults.
🐌Increase slowly if you’re not used to it.
💧Drink PLENTY of water so the fiber can do its job. (Real Goals? Half your body weight in ounces... Yes, really!)
Fiber supplements can help — but they’re not quite the same as fiber from food.
If you use a supplement, psyllium is great. There are many options, like Metamucil or brands without additives!
But why is food still better?
🌈More fiber diversity (soluble and insoluble)
🦠Supports the healthy bugs in your microbiome
🌿All those extra nutrients and plant compounds. They work synergistically!
🫀Better long-term cardiometabolic benefits.
***BUT It takes time for change, so don't feel bad about using supplements if you need them. I suggest adding up fiber grams a few days in a row of your usual to assess your goals!***
If you want a simple goal, start by adding:
🫘Beans.
🌾Oats.
🧆Chia or flax.
🫐Berries.
🥬Veggies.
🌰Nuts and seeds.
If you need a customized plan to meet these goals, Dr. Lizzy is your girl...(Hey, that's me!)

Have you heard of the "Cortisol Steal"?
It's a catchy phrase, but it’s not an actual medical diagnosis.
It describes the way chronic stress can disrupt brain–ovary signaling, which may affect ovulation, progesterone, sleep, energy, and mood.
Cortisol doesn't literally “steal” your hormones, or their building blocks. More accurately, ongoing stress can throw off the hormonal communication that keeps your cycle and metabolism running smoothly.
Common signs can include irregular cycles, worse PMS, fatigue, cravings, sleep disruption, anxiety, and that “wired but tired” feeling. These symptoms can also overlap with perimenopause, thyroid issues, under-eating, overtraining, and PCOS.
So what can you do about it?
💤Prioritize consistent sleep.
🥩Eat enough PROTEIN and total calories.
😬Avoid chronic fasting - especially when chronically stressed physically or mentally
💪Don't overtrain during exercise
🪬breathing, walking, meditation, or yoga.
👭Prioritize rest, *social connection*, and give your body PERMISSION for recovery.
The goal isn’t to “beat cortisol.” It’s to reduce the total stress load so your hormones can function more normally.
🙋Notably, this happens similarly in MEN too!
🦸If you're hormones are out of whack, CocreationMD can get you optimized from an integrative perspective - on your terms.

I've been thinking a lot about hyping this program and what it means to my practice.
Let’s be honest—“THINNR” is not my favorite name. It sounds like another quick-fix shame-centered weight loss program, and that is exactly what this is not. And it's definitely not about "getting thin"!
THINNR is about restoring how your body actually works.
That's why CocreationMD is rebranding this name to fit our Metabolic Optimization Program.
T-ransformative
H-olistic
I-ndividualized
N-atural
N-utritional
R-estoration
Every patient in this program receives close medical follow-up, individualized planning, and consistent check-ins. You are not handed a protocol and sent on your way. You are supported. You are monitored. You are guided.
This is a six-month integrative care experience that includes hormone optimization, targeted supplementation, reiki, auricular acupuncture, and direct physician access when you need it. We are also building a support group because real change happens in community, not isolation.
That means the CocreationMD Metabolic Optimization is:
- physician-led
- systems-based
- sustainable and supported
This is not about chasing a number on the scale. It is about resetting your metabolism, your hormones, your inflammation, and your nervous system so your body can function the way it was designed to.
When your body works better, you feel better. And everything else follows.
I'm learning SO much about my body on my journey with new food... Ever since I started, I have had a stuffy nose - yet, no one else is sick?!
🦸Turns out "liberating histamine" isn't an act of valor and courage, it's just me eating Cuties and cherries 🍒 😂
Histamine can be sneaky. And it sometimes spurs from your guts!
If you feel stuffy, flushed, itchy, foggy, or “off” after certain foods, high histamine foods and "histamine liberators" may be part of the picture.
Histamine-related gut triggers can include:
🧀Aged cheese.
🍶Fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt, kefir, soy sauce, vinegar, and kombucha.
🥓Cured meats like bacon, salami, pepperoni, ham, and deli meats.
🍺Alcohol, especially wine, beer, and champagne.
🍅Tomatoes, spinach, eggplant, and avocado.
🍊Citrus fruits.
🍓Strawberries, bananas, pineapple, papaya, kiwi, cherries, and plums.
🍫Chocolate and cocoa.
🥜Nuts like walnuts, peanuts, and cashews.
🫘Some beans, soy, and lentils.
🫙Additives like sulfites, nitrites, benzoates, glutamate, and artificial dyes.
BUT, The goal is not to FEAR food — it’s to notice patterns and understand what your body is trying to tell you.
🤧If certain meals leave you congested, headachy, flushed, or inflamed, your body may be asking for a lower-histamine approach.
📚Food is information.
Sometimes the body is not “being dramatic.” It’s being specific.
Come see me at CocreationMD to make a plan that fits YOUR body's needs!

I got asked about the sustainability of the THINNR Weight Loss Program, and I wanted to address the way the program works - an alternative to GLP-1s - which often have to be taken indefinitely to maintain weight loss.
🤔This is an excellent question, and one that I asked too!
🍽️ I am currently eating 80-100g of protein and about 50 net carbs --- I'm don't feel like I'm depriving my body (which I love so much) in this program. I can also tell the inflammation in my body (oh, hey, Sjogrens!) is decreasing.
⏰So, What makes Thinnr sustainable?
🙌Because it’s not a crash diet.
🔥It resets your metabolism, teaches portion control, improves food quality, and helps you find what actually works for your body.
1️⃣Phase 1: Metabolic Activation
This is where you wake up your metabolism and get your body ready to change.
2️⃣Phase 2: Metabolic Thinning
This is the weight-loss phase. You’re using structured portions, better food choices, and a plan that supports real results.
3️⃣Phase 3: Metabolic Transition
This is where you come off the medication but keep the momentum going. Your body gets time to adjust instead of being shocked.
4️⃣Phase 4: Metabolic Normalization
This is the maintenance phase. You gradually increase portions, reintroduce breakfast if you want, and lock in a new BASAL METABOLIC RATE so the weight stays off.
🎉That’s why Thinnr works long term — it doesn’t just help you lose the weight, it helps you keep it off.
