This 8,000 lb abstract sculpture is downtown on the square. Created by California-based sculptor, Aris Demetrios and installed in 1971. Regarded as Springfields first piece of modern art. Did you know the Tumbler “tumbles” every solstice & equinox as part of its core design concept? Fun fact, this concept was a forgotten secret for 41 yrs! In 2012 city officials rediscovered the original vision and began using a crane to start tumbling it. Aris Demetrios intended for the sculpture to become a “work of art that’s ’ever-new” giving the community a fresh perspective.
