We Went OFF to See the Wizard; the Wonderful Wizard of Eyes!

We took Brave Heart to Lee's Summit today to see her eye specialist. Her pressures were not just great, but they were WONDERFUL! 11 in the affected eye (blind), and 15 in the unaffected eye. These numbers are better than they were 6 months ago. She continues to beat the odds for a dog with glaucoma. On October 19, 2025 she had an overnight pressure spike that left her blind in her right eye. When we took her to the specialist her pressure was so high he was ready to remove it to relieve her pain. But the amazing Dr. Sisler gave her an injection that lowered her pressure and saved her eye. No, she can't see out of it, but she didn't have to have it removed.

Dr. Sisler continues to stress that, by all odds, the eye drops we have her on should have begun to lose their effectiveness in keeping her pressure down in the affected eye, and her other eye would normally have also been affected within a few weeks of the other one. But here we are 10 months later, and both eyes are continuing to respond well to the eye drops.

Today he told us he has had a small number of dogs that kept their eyes and their sight for 5-6 years. He also told us that last week he had a patient that was completely fine on a Friday afternoon, then had a pressure spike that Sunday and had to have the eye removed.

Glaucoma in dogs is like that....kind of sneaky.

Brave Heart is special. She was made especially for me and Ron. I don't know why. I only know in my heart that she was intended to be ours. We are choosing to celebrate what IS, and to worry about what may be when/if it happens. We are celebrating that she is beating the odds. Believe me, I cried some happy tears coming home today. And she is not just getting by with being blind in one eye, she is thriving...doing agility, rally, tricks, obedience, and playing with her new little brother.

I thank God for where we are today, and for giving us the strength to deal with what we must in the future. And we thank all of you for your prayers and happy thoughts, and ask that you continue to remember Brave Heart in your prayers. They are working. 🥰
