Hatching season is officially over for the season!!
Eggs will still be available (locally) for those that want to hatch, but we’re done until September here at Rebel’s Flying Feathers & The Chicken Addiction Poultry Shop.
We still have chicks available for the next month. The shop will be closed for the month of August as we enjoy a little R&R in Alaska.
We’ll fire up the incubators again in September and begin the next hatching season in October. So if you didn’t get chicks this spring; hopefully we’ll have what you’re looking for this fall.

The incubator has officially been turned off! The last set of eggs went into the Hatcher for lockdown. Time for a three month break.
Bird will be reassessed late August/early September and put into breeding pens again and the incubator will be loaded again to begin our ‘26/‘27 hatching season in October.

I will be assessing breeds this fall to see which are staying and which are going. As of right now, I’m considering cutting the Columbian Wyandotte & Isabel Cuckoo Orpington from the lineup. I’m also considering thinning out the Iowa Blue flock (I honestly need to get into the habit of rotating out my older stock).

One of the Penedesenca grow-out cockerels (potentially next year’s breeding cockbird).

I just set the last of the chicken eggs for the season. I decided to keep the incubators going an extra month to hatch out those rare breeds that started laying late in the season.
I do apologize for not having Isabel Cuckoo Orpington or Swedish Flower Hen available this year. I got less than 10 of the Orpington myself. The original flock I believe is much older than what I was originally told. Hopefully I can build this flock over the next couple years.
The Swedish were very late to the laying party. I need to go back through records and see if they’re more of a fall/winter producer.

Since I’ve set the last of the eggs (I’ll start up again in September) I’ll have hatching eggs available for those that want a chance at hatching those rare breeds. I will not be marking eggs though. This will be a daily hens choice option - this means that whatever breed lays eggs on that day- that’s what will be available. I decided to leave many breeds in their breeding pens. There’s just more harmony when there aren’t so many hens and cockbirds running around together.
The breeds I have in pens are:
Bielefelder (I’ve swapped out to a new cockbird last week)
Mottled Houdan
Salmon Faverolles
Crele Penedesenca
Chocolate Orpington
Spangled Russian Orloff
Isabel Cuckoo Orpington- if they ever lay
Swedish Flower Hen
Tolbunt Polish

I will also have both the Narragansett & Royal Palm Turkey eggs available. If you wish these to be part of your surprise dozen, just let me know.

I will not be checking fertility for the next few months, so the prices per dozen will reflect this. Most of these breeds would sell for $100/dz, but I’ll be running a summer special of $60/dz- again this is a mix of eggs/ whatever had been laid that day from those pens. These will not be marked as they will go in the fridge as eating eggs if not purchased.

Here is today’s haul- and no, the colored egg layers are not available as they are in a hen only pen right now- poor girls were getting ravaged by so many cockbirds 😩 (they’re a bit more behaved as a bachelor flock anyway).

Pretty free range eggs- always available (eating only).

I’m not sure how many birds and or eggs we’ll have available later next month. We were hit with a tornado yesterday evening. Unfortunately this included a power outage. I’m currently out of the state (and rushing home as quickly as possible); but no power means brooders have no heat. I’m hoping the little ones are able to stay warm with their numbers. But this will be a major blow to the shop. I’m looking at a 400-500 loss in chicks right now.
So please bear with me over the coming weeks as we work through the possible losses. As of right now, I’ve been told that all the adults are alive and safe.

04/14/2026

In the coming weeks we will have limited open hours. Tuesday (4/14) is open. We will be open again Sunday & Monday (4/18 & 4/20). Then again around Tuesday (4/28)- at which time we should reschedule somewhat “normal” hours . If you’re wanting chicks, please schedule a visit for one of these days as chicks are still moved off the availability list each week as they grow out of the brooders.
The last of our Eggers & Wyandotte hatched this week; so there is a limited amount of time before those are no longer available. I will reassess birds later this summer and sell off extras (if there are any), but these will be at a higher price than they are currently, and there’s no guarantee I’ll have any available.
