Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here. And let’s just get this out of the way…It’s still HOT!!! School has begun for most kids in public and private schools and universities. This Sunday the 16th, we will be having a Blessing of the Backpacks. So, BRING YOUR BACKPACKS, BOOK BAGS or WHATEVER in which you carry your supplies. We will have a special liturgy of blessing and prayer over the bags and those who carry them.
This week’s message is a really hard one. This message comes from Matthew 15, the story of Jesus and the Syro Phonecian Woman. Jesus and the disciples are walking in a Gentile area across the desert. The Syro Phonecian woman is unnamed and a Gentile. She sees Jesus and the disciples and runs calling Jesus’ name as she follows them. She is shouting to him that her daughter is possessed by a demon and that He can save her. Jesus ignores her and the disciples try to keep her away from Jesus. It gets worse…Come and hear how this extraordinary story plays out. Worship begins at 9:00!
Here at Hope Lutheran in Springtown, Texas we are a casual dress, come as you are, coffee drinking congregation and believe coffee to be the third sacrament! We welcome all who come through our doors. Communion is served and ALL ARE WELCOME at the table of grace, mercy and forgiveness. Sooo…

HOPE IS ALIVE!
Hi! Pastor Gaylene here! It’s Friday! I hope this Friday finds you well and planning a wonderful weekend somewhere cool and you get to do something fun!
This week’s message is found in the 14th chapter of Matthew. It is the story of Jesus walking on water. When I was a kid my Dad told me a joke about these two deacons and a buddy who went fishing. They’re out on the lake and one of the deacons says, “I left my hat in the car.” And he gets out of the boat and walks on the water to the shore and back to the boat. He returns to the boat and the other deacon says, “I left my thermos in the truck.” He climbs out of the boat and walks across the water to the shore returning the same way. Their buddy decides to try this miraculous walking on water thing. So, he climbs out of the boat and promptly sinks into the water and struggles to the shore. The two deacons look at one another and one of them says, “You think we should have told him where the rocks were.”
That is a silly story. But this story of Jesus is not so silly. Jesus has just come off losing his cousin John to a brutal ex*****on. Followed by the feeding of 5000 souls and healing their sicknesses. He sends the disciples back home across the Sea of Galilee while he goes back to the mountain for a well deserved time of rest and prayer. A raging storm happens on the sea and the disciples are struggling to get back to the shore. They are terrified and then they see Jesus walking on the water. So the question for us is what do we do when we find ourselves terrified and don’t know what to do? And what can we learn from this miraculous fete Jesus shows to the disciples? Come to Hope Lutheran Church at 9:00 am in Springtown, Texas this Sunday and find out.
We are a casual dress, friendly, coffee drinking bunch who welcome ALL who come through our doors.
Come and see.
Come as you are.
Come and fellowship.

HOPE IS ALIVE
Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! We have arrived at the last day of July! That means August begins tomorrow and I have heard that we will be in the 90 degree temps for a few days. I hope y’all did not put your sweaters and hot chocolate away! They may come in handy. It is Texas after all!
Quick message: due to the excessive heat outside of the church and the heat that is generated in the church kitchen, Burrito Breakfast will be cancelled for tomorrow and will resume on the first Saturday in September. The monthly pot-luck is also cancelled.
This week’s message is found in
Matthew 14: 13-21. You have heard the story of the Feeding of the 5000. Great story. What you may not know or remember is that Jesus comes into this story just after the death of his cousin, John the Baptizer. Jesus goes to the side of the mountain to grieve the loss of John who is only about six months older than Jesus. Jesus often went to a quiet place to grieve and pray without his disciples. But this time there was great need. The crowd followed Jesus close to where he was and Jesus spoke to them, healed their diseases and fed them dinner. Come and hear a wonderful story that helps us understand the meaning of this time honored passage of scripture. It’s a great story!
Worship begins at 9:00. We are a casual dress, coffee drinking bunch of folks. We welcome ALL who come through our doors. ALL ARE WELCOME here at Hope Lutheran Church in Springtown, Texas! Sooooo……..
Come and see.
Come as you are.
Come and fellowship.

HOPE IS ALIVE!
Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! I drive a red PT Convertible Cruiser. I love my little car. Today was the first day this month that it was cool enough (or not so hot) that I was able to drive wearing my favorite hat and drive with the top down! I turn up the radio on my favorite Christian radio station and sing till my heart is content. It was glorious.
This week’s message comes from Matthew 13: 31-33, 44-52. Writer Matthew wrote five of Jesus’ seven parables in these verses. The parables are Mustard Seed and Yeast, Hidden Treasure and Pearl and The Parable of the Net. Mustard Seed and Yeast are grouped together as are Hidden Treasure and Pearl leaving the Parable of the Net to stand alone. That is a lot of material to cover in one sermon. So…I am a home cook and a baker. So, this Sunday’s message will be about The Mustard Seed and the Yeast. Much of the people of Israel had home gardens and baked their own bread. Now mustard seed grows a plant that begins from the tiniest seed found in all of Israel. The thing about this plant is that even though it starts so tiny it grows into a tree so large that offers a home for birds and their nests. The yeast doesn’t come from jars like I have in my fridge. Yeast comes from fermented bread that is folded into flour to make new bread. Both of these things, yeast and mustard start very small and grow exponentially. Come and and hear how these two simple items help grow the kingdom of God. I can’t wait!
We will also be putting together blessing bags after service this Sunday. Everyone is invited to help.
