☕️ A Quick Update from BGM Coffee Roasters ☕️

Unfortunately, there will be no Old Soul Sourdough delivery this week. I recently broke my pointer finger, which means baking and handling dough are on a short pause while I heal.

But the good news is… the coffee is still roasting!

You can still find freshly roasted BGM Coffee Roasters beans at Faithful Acres Farm in Azle, with several delicious options available:

☕ Ethiopia — bright and flavorful
☕ Sumatra — rich and bold
☕ Bolivia — smooth and balanced
☕ Brazil — sweet and comforting
☕ Papua New Guinea — rich with a distinctive character

So, while the sourdough is taking a little break, your coffee doesn't have to! 😉

Stop by Faithful Acres Farm and grab a freshly roasted bag for your morning cup. Supporting local businesses means so much, especially during unexpected little setbacks like this one.

Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and continued support of BGM Coffee Roasters! ❤️

Learn more about your coffee! ☕
One of the benefits of small batch roasting is that I know which farms my beans are coming from. From time to time, I'll include an origin spotlight to let you see the community you support with every purchase. I've included a couple YouTube video links that are from the very estate from which our Papua New Guinea coffee beans are harvested and processed.

The Effect of Time, Roasting Temperature, and Grind Size on Caffeine and Chlorogenic Acid Concentrations in Cold Brew Coffee 08/04/2026

Let's talk caffeine. Is there a difference in caffeine between the various roast levels in coffee?

A simple Google search reveals yes and no. Unfortunately, not all Google answers are based on research. You know, actual repeatable, verifiable experiments where there are measured values in mg/L of caffeine.

Here is such an experiment: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5740146/

Don't get me wrong - lots of WORDS and NUMBERS in here. Not your easy read before bed. (Or maybe it could be...😴)

Let me sum up what they did here and some of the findings. This experiment compared hot brew coffee vs. cold brew coffee, medium grind vs. coarse grind. In each scenario, the acidity and caffeine levels were measured in mg/L.

Findings:

1. Hot brew has slightly less caffeine than cold brew.

2. Neither cold nor hot brew is more acidic than the other (despite how cold brew gets advertised as less acidic). If cold brew is less acidic when it gets to your mouth, it isn't because of the beans. There's something to think about...

3. Dark roast contained a little less caffeine than medium roasts.

4. Coarse ground beans released less caffeine than medium ground beans during the same time period.

The Effect of Time, Roasting Temperature, and Grind Size on Caffeine and Chlorogenic Acid Concentrations in Cold Brew Coffee The extraction kinetics and equilibrium concentrations of caffeine and 3-chlorogenic acid (3-CGA) in cold brew coffee were investigated by brewing four coffee samples (dark roast/medium grind, dark roast/coarse grind, medium roast/medium grind, ...
