It goes without saying that is probably one of our top influences. And probably the biggest, most influential NYHC band, worldwide. Sick of it all were a true hardcore band no matter how big they became, and always looked out for younger, newer bands. They looked out for us and we became friends. Played with them many times. Once, they showed up at a show we were playing at the Lintefabrik in Belgium. It was a day off for them. They wanted to play! Of course! They insisted that we still headline cuz it was our show, they were guests. No egos.. that’s hardcore. What an honor that was and a show we will never forget. It was very special for us. That’s just one of many memories we have with SOIA. Lou in particular was a mentor to us. I remember hanging with him at Warp tour and him giving us great advice and guidance. He was friendly and funny. And he was one of the greatest frontmen in the genre. In 2000, I was quitting KYI. I hit a real rough time and was very low. Lou called me out of the blue and urged me not to quit. He made me feel very important, and that WE were important. I got a few phone calls, but Lou’s stood out. It might as well have been Elvis Presley. Anyway, we toured Asia and wrote another album that year. Lou, thank you for the music, the words, the ideals, and the inspiration. You will be dearly missed by many. Rest in Peace, brother.
