St. Louis is our home. We build a movement of survivors that will meaningfully address violence. Louis have the solutions to the question: What will keep us safe?

The Freedom Community Center (FCC) is a new, Black-led organization in North St. Louis that was founded to dismantle systems of oppression that inflict harm and trauma on Black communities in St. Louis City, particularly the police and the criminal punishment system. We ground ourselves in the knowledge that the Black survivors of St. Given the resources to alleviate immediate economic needs, the space to facilitate communal healing, and the time to dream collectively of alternative approaches, our community of survivors will meaningfully address harm happening in St. Louis City at the individual and systemic level.

Sometimes politics matter more than livelihood or life itself. That’s why identifying our politics was prioritized over identifying our work, impact or the fact that we are trying to highlight medical neglect and save lives in the jail in St. Louis. Identifying us as activists and progressives first mattered more.

But yes, we are.

That’s why “a string of inmate deaths” was printed, but we all know 22 PEOPLE died in custody at the jail since 2020. We all heard the voice of the father who said he didn’t think his son was going to make it. He said in the first 15 seconds of the video he didn’t think his son would live. What was printed? He said his son’s mental health suffered.

For the record, we have never doubted the people. Just as those who never doubt or verify anything jail or city leaders claim.

We can’t and won’t flatten the truth and what the people locked up inside Downtown St. Louis have to say about their conditions and treatment. We are not done.

Coverage from St. Louis Public Radio 📰🚨
St. Louis public safety officials claim they “investigated”

The experiences of the people whose voices you heard are “unsubstantiated.”

But we hear the people you want us to ignore. The City Justice Center must answer for how it is treating people detained there. You cannot treat people inhumanely and expect us to be silent.

We are not done.

‼️We declare this emergency in solidarity with our campaign.
