HouseFit
At HouseFit we help adults 55+ maximize their independence and fitness, so they can continue to enjo
We had a great turnout for our recent CEU course, *High-Intensity Exercise for the Geriatric Population*.
Physical therapists from across the St. Louis area joined us for a day of learning, discussion, and hands-on application focused on helping older adults achieve better outcomes through appropriately dosed exercise.
Topics included ageism in healthcare, exercise screening, HIIT for older adults, clinical decision-making, and practical exercise prescription strategies that can be implemented immediately in the clinic.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such thoughtful conversations. We look forward to hosting more educational opportunities in the future!

Archers is our August Exercise of the Month! 🎯
Did you know that as we age, our trunk and rib cage often become stiffer? This can affect how deeply we breathe and make everyday activities like driving, walking, and rolling over in bed more difficult.
Archers is a simple exercise that helps improve mobility, balance, and breathing capacity all at the same time. We love exercises that do more than one thing!
Start by reaching your arms forward, then draw one arm back like you're pulling back a bowstring. Follow your hand with your eyes and shoulders, then return to the starting position and repeat.
Need a modification? Hold onto a counter for support or try it seated. Ready for a challenge? Change your foot position or add a step as you rotate.
Give Archers a try this month and let us know what you think!

Aging isn't just about the number of candles on your birthday cake. 🎂
Inside your cells are tiny protective caps called telomeres, and they play a major role in how quickly your body ages. The exciting part? Research shows that exercise can help protect them.
That means every walk, strength workout, and balance exercise is doing more than helping you stay active—it may actually be helping your cells stay healthier for longer.

🌻 August Newsletter 🌻
In this month’s newsletter, Dr. Beth explores why some people seem to bounce back quickly after illness, injury, or surgery while others struggle to recover. The difference often comes down to one important factor: reserve.
Reserve is your body’s extra capacity to handle life’s unexpected challenges. Dr. Beth explains the three types of reserve—Movement, Cognitive, and Physiologic—and how building strength, balance, endurance, brain health, and overall fitness creates the margin needed to recover faster and maintain independence as you age.
The good news? No matter your age or current fitness level, it’s never too late to build your reserves. Through personalized physical therapy and specialized fitness programs, you can improve your resilience, making everyday activities easier while preparing your body for whatever life brings next.

Chris used to struggle every time she walked up the Muny hill. What once felt like a simple walk became a challenge where she had to stop multiple times just to catch her breath and rest her legs before continuing.
After participating in fitness classes at HouseFit, things began to change. Step by step, her legs got stronger, her balance improved, and her confidence started to come back.
Now, Chris is able to walk all the way up the Muny hill without stopping. No breaks. No needing to hold back. Just steady, continuous movement to the top.
What once felt difficult and discouraging is now something she can do with confidence again — a simple walk that represents a much bigger return to strength and independence.
