🎃 Sometimes the best creative ideas start with, “What if I tried this?”

I grabbed a simple white pumpkin, black ink, and paint sticks and turned it into a fun little fall art project.

No fancy supplies.
No perfect plan.
Just lines, shapes, patterns, color, and a whole lot of play.

That’s one of my favorite things about creating—sometimes you just need to start and see where the idea takes you.

This would also be such a fun way to talk with kids about:
✨ line
✨ pattern
✨ shape
✨ color
✨ contrast
✨ creative risk-taking
✨ making your own artistic choices

Simple materials can still lead to BIG creativity. 🍂

Save this for a festive fall art idea, and tell me—would you decorate a pumpkin like this?

✨ Sometimes the smallest invitation sparks the BIGGEST creativity.

In our art studio, I love leaving little opportunities for inspiration everywhere—Art Trading Card rewards, surprise art traps, tiny prompts, and creative challenges that make kids WANT to make something. 🎨

The goal isn’t always a finished masterpiece.

Sometimes it’s simply:
✨ getting curious
✨ trying something new
✨ making just because you can
✨ discovering an idea you didn’t know you had

And those Art Trading Cards? They’ve become tiny treasures. 💛

Because when creativity feels like an invitation instead of an assignment… kids show us just how creative they really are.

Would your students fall for an ART TRAP? 👀🎨

Sometimes the things that mean the most are the little notes that say, “Made this for you!” 🥹💛

Inspired by “tiny treasures” from Ashley | Artsy Blevs | Art Teacher, I wanted to create a special spot in our new principal’s office to collect all of those little pieces of positivity that come her way throughout the year.

Using beautiful colored paper, I created simple frames, laminated them for durability, and attached them to the wall with pushpins. 🌈

Now student artwork, kind notes, thank-yous, celebrations, and little reminders of the GOOD can be tucked into the frames—and because everything is movable, the gallery can grow and change right along with the school year.

Because the things that make us smile deserve a place of honor. 💕✨

Here’s to filling this wall ALL the way up.

Things art teachers do… paint pasta. 🌈😂

I’m using tempera paint to prep an unexpected art material for our Littles’ studio centers!

Instead of telling them WHAT to make, I’m curious to see what they discover in all of these different shapes, colors and textures.

Could they become a coral reef? 🪸
An abstract work of art?
A pattern?
A mosaic?
Flowers?
A creature no one has ever seen before?

That’s one of my favorite things about a choice-based art studio—sometimes changing the MATERIAL is all it takes to spark a completely new idea.

I also recognize that using food as an art material isn’t the right choice for every classroom or family, and I respect that. ❤️

Now I need my art teacher friends to help ME experiment…

What’s your favorite way to color pasta? I’m trying tempera paint, but is there a better way? 👇

WAIT… Walgreens banners as WALLPAPER?! 👀🎨

Yep.

I’m always looking for unexpected ways to add color, pattern, and a little more JOY to our art studio—without making everything permanent.

So instead of hanging these Walgreens banner prints like… well, banners 😂… I used water-soluble wallpaper paste and added them to the INSIDE of my cabinet doors.

Now opening a cabinet gives us a little pop of color and personality. 🌈

And this is exactly what I love about designing a creative classroom:

✨ Look at ordinary materials differently.
✨ Add color where you least expect it.
✨ Make functional spaces feel inspiring.
✨ Remember that classroom design can be playful, too.

And I’m definitely not finished. I have a few more ideas for bringing color into this studio in unexpected ways. 👀

Stay tuned for the next transformation!

Would you try banner prints as wallpaper in your classroom?

Teachers, we all know that feeling. You love creativity, but sometimes the mess is real!

My comfy hokas got covered in paint platters.

Instead of stressing, I decided to turn my mistake into a masterpiece!

Here’s how I did it:
💡Grab permanent markers.
🌈Add color all over!
🎨Use rubbing alcohol to blend the colors.
⭐️Let your creativity take over!

Now I have custom, colorful, art shoes that are as unique as my art studio. And the next paint splatter? It’ll become part of the design.
Here’s your reminder: a beautiful oops isn’t something to hide. It’s a chance to create something new!

That’s the magic of teaching art. We don’t have to make everything perfect. We just have to stay curious and keep creating.
Are you ready to embrace the mess? What oops to magic have you created lately?
