I almost tapped "close account" on an old card to clean up my file. Huge mistake. Closing old accounts tanks your score fast, shortens your history, and hurts utilization. The real move: leave accounts open and dispute the negative stuff instead - collections, charge-offs, hard inquiries. That is exactly what our Month to Month Credit Repair Service does: dispute inaccurate items across all 3 bureaus and debt collectors, no contract, cancel anytime. Save this before you make the same mistake.
MYTH: Paying off a collection instantly raises your score.
FACT: It doesn't. The balance hits zero, but the negative mark still sits on your report, still dragging your score down.
Here's what actually moves the number: getting that item disputed for accuracy, or negotiated off completely. That's the part most people skip.
If you've been paying old collections and wondering why your score hasn't budged, this is why. Stop paying blind. Let Credit Work fight the items actually holding you back.
