Journey to Healing | Wednesday, August 19
Loving a parent with schizophrenia asks something of you that most people never see.
This month at 21c Museum Hotel, BHR President and CEO Tiffany Lacy Clark sits down with 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis to talk about growing up alongside a parent living with schizophrenia. The love and the grief that show up at the same time. The work of honoring who your parent is, not just what they are managing.
Come listen. Come share. Come be reminded you are not the only one.
We will also be giving a live demonstration of the Response app, our tiered student wellness platform connecting young people to support when they need it.

Your direction is more important than your speed.
Everybody around you looks like they are moving faster. New job. New house. Timeline you thought you would be on by now.
But fast in the wrong direction is still the wrong direction.
You are allowed to go slow. You are allowed to take the exit. What matters is that you are pointed toward something that is actually yours.
Check the direction today. The speed will work itself out.

"Peace is not the absence of noise. It's the ability to stay whole inside of it."
Life does not get quiet on request.
The bills still come. The group chat still buzzes. The news still runs. Waiting for stillness before you feel okay means waiting on something that may never arrive.
Peace is not a silent room. It is you, steady, in a loud one.
Build the thing that keeps you whole. A breath you can return to. A person you can call. A boundary you can hold. The noise stays, but you stop getting swept away by it.
We Care. We Listen. We Respond. π
When the noise gets to be too much, call or text 988. Free, confidential, and available 24/7.

Texting is always an option.
Not everyone can talk out loud. Sometimes you are at work. Sometimes there are people in the next room. Sometimes the words come easier when you can type them.
988 text services run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Same trained support, quieter way in.
You do not need the right words to reach out. You just need to start.
We Care. We Listen. We Respond. π
988 is free, confidential, and available 24/7.

The tight shoulders. The jaw you did not realize you were clenching. The stomach that turns before a hard conversation.
Your body has been tracking what your mind tried to move past. It holds the stress you pushed through, the grief you set aside, the weeks you told yourself you were fine.
That is not weakness. That is information.
Listen to what it is telling you today. Then give it something back. Rest. Water. A slow breath. A doctor's visit you keep postponing.
We Care. We Listen. We Respond. π
If the weight is more than you can carry alone, call or text 988. Free, confidential, and available 24/7.

You do not have to overhaul your whole life today.
Progress is rarely loud. It looks like getting out of bed on a heavy morning. Answering one text. Walking to the end of the block and turning around. None of it feels like much in the moment, and all of it adds up.
If the big version feels impossible, shrink it until it does not. That still counts.
Pick one small thing today. Then let that be enough.
We Care. We Listen. We Respond. π
If today feels like too much, call or text 988. Free, confidential, and available 24/7.
