Publishing is changing, and authors have more opportunities than ever to reach readers.

What does that mean for authors?

Your book no longer has to live in just one format. A professionally published book can reach readers in print, digital, audio, and beyond.

At Davis Creative Publishing, we help authors look at the whole picture so the decisions made today support where the book can go tomorrow.

Because publishing is not just about getting your book out.

In Horizon of Hope, Dondee Sponseller shares a courageous and deeply personal story of survival, faith, and restoration. What begins as subtle tension within her home slowly unravels into a life marked by control, fear, and emotional and physical abuse. Trapped in a cycle she cannot yet name, she struggles to hold together the life she once believed was unbreakable.
As the weight of silence grows heavier and the safety of her children hangs in the balance, Dondee is faced with an impossible choice: remain in the familiar darkness or step into the unknown.

In her most desperate moments, when everything around her is falling apart, she discovers a truth that changes everything. God had never left her.

Through heartbreak, courage, and unwavering faith, she begins the difficult journey toward freedom, healing, and reclaiming her voice. What follows is a powerful testament to the strength found in surrender, the courage to break free, and the beauty God can bring from even the deepest wounds.

Horizon of Hope is more than a memoir. It is a story of redemption, a witness to Godโ€™s faithfulness, and a lifeline for anyone who has ever felt trapped, silenced, or alone.
You are not alone. And your story is not over.

AUTHORโ€™S EXPERIENCE:
โ€œWorking with Davis Creative Publishing (DCP) was truly a joy and one of the most meaningful experiences of my journey as an author. At first, the publishing process felt a little overwhelming. There were so many things to understand, and so many decisions to make, but DCP was there every step of the way, turning uncertainty into confidence and making the entire experience feel much more manageable.

What touched me most was how supported I felt throughout the process. They answered every question, provided everything I needed, and met every request with patience, understanding, and genuine care. I never felt like just another author or another project. I felt heard, valued, and supported.

DCP helped transform something that began as a vision into something I could hold in my hands and proudly call my own. I am deeply grateful for their guidance, encouragement, and dedication to bringing my vision to life.

If you have a story in your heart and a goal of seeing it become a book, I recommend Davis Creative Publishing without hesitation. They didnโ€™t just help me publish a book. They helped me believe in the journey and celebrate the author I was becoming. For that, I will always be grateful.โ€

Sometimes a phrase lands in my mind and instantly becomes a picture.
I call this little creative series my

This one reframes something we all experience:

Fear doesnโ€™t disappear.
But when we care deeply about somethingโ€”our message, our story, the people we want to reachโ€”passion begins to outweigh hesitation.

And thatโ€™s when courage shows up.
I see this often with first-time authors.
They feel the fearโ€ฆ and they move forward anyway. Because the message matters more than the discomfort.

Thatโ€™s what it means to ๐›๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐‘๐€๐•๐„.
Not the absence of fear
but the decision to move forward with purpose anyway.
Because on the other side of that step is often the very impact you were meant to make.

And she puts it beautifully: being brave isn't about being fearless. It's about recognizing that remaining silent can cost the people you are meant to serve.

Rachel's anthology brought together 32 women across generationsโ€”from their 20s to their late 70sโ€”and created something much bigger than a book. The authors mentored one another, built friendships, grew in confidence and business, and went on to collaborate on 12 community events.

I'm talking about ๐ฆ๐ž๐ญ๐š๐๐š๐ญ๐š.
And before you roll your eyes because that sounds like a very technical publishing term, let me simplify it:
That's pretty important, right?

IngramSpark has now introduced ๐ˆ๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐’๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ค ๐€๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ, a tool that uses the information you provide about your book to recommend BISAC and Thema subjects, keywords, descriptions, and other metadata.

For independent authors, I think that's worth paying attention to.
Because most authors didn't become authors because they wanted to spend their afternoons researching subject codes.

But here's where I think we need to be careful.
It can make recommendations.

You still need to decide whether those recommendations accurately describe your book.
And that distinction matters.

Why?
Because metadata is part of your book's discoverability strategy.
Your title tells me what your book is called.
Your cover gives me a visual invitation.
Your description tells me what the book is about.

Your metadata helps the publishing ecosystem understand
That includes BISAC subjects, Thema subjects, keywords, audience information, and other book details.

And there's some interesting evidence behind this.
IngramSpark published a 2026 case study comparing books with basic metadata against comparable books whose metadata was strategically improved.
The enhanced group used more specific BISAC subjects, Thema subjects and qualifiers, keywords, and regional subjects when appropriate.
The result?

The enhanced titles experienced a 9% ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐š๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ญ in the study.
Important caveat: IngramSpark itself says similar results aren't guaranteed.
Stillโ€ฆI'd call that interesting.
So how should an independent author use Assist?

Start with a
IngramSpark says the description needs to be at least 1,500 characters to use Assist, and the tool relies on the information you provide to generate its recommendations.
Then be specific.
What is your book about?
Who is it for?
What topics and themes does it explore?
Where and when does it take place?
What genre is it?
What would your ideal reader search for?
Give the tool good information, and you'll get more useful recommendations.
Thenโ€”and this is importantโ€” ๐ซ๐ž๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ฐ ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ .
Don't blindly accept every suggested category or keyword.

Ask:
Is this really my book?
Would my ideal reader recognize it?
Does this accurately represent the book as a whole?
Does it align with my cover, description, and marketing message?

Because here's my favorite takeaway:
That's especially important for independent authors.

Being an independent publisher doesn't mean you have to know everything.
It means you need to be willing to

IngramSpark ASSIST can make the metadata process easier.
It can save time.
It can give you ideas you may not have considered.
But don't hand over the steering wheel.
Let technology assist you.
Then use your judgment to make the final call.
Because your book doesn't just need to be published.

I call this little creative series my

This one is all about momentum:
Progress doesnโ€™t come from waiting for the perfect moment. It comes from movement.
From getting honest about where you are.
From taking that next step.
From showing upโ€”consistently.
In publishing, I see this every day.

Authors who gain traction arenโ€™t necessarily the ones with the โ€œperfectโ€ ideaโ€”theyโ€™re the ones who keep going. Who follow a path. Who stay in motion long enough to build something meaningful.

Thatโ€™s where guidance and community can make all the difference.
Because when you keep moving forward, you donโ€™t just create momentumโ€ฆ
You create visibility.

As the creators of the โ€œAuthor-As Publisher Roadmapโ€ framework, Davis Creative Publishing works with thought leaders to build their platform, publish books, and create additional streams of revenue.

One of the most expensive publishing mistakes can happen long before your book is ever printed, and most first-time authors never see it coming.

You are excited. You finally have the manuscript, you can picture the cover, and you are already imagining what it will feel like to hold that finished book in your hands. So, it is easy to start making individual decisions about book size, page count, cover design, fonts, and interior layout without realizing how closely all of those choices are connected.

Every publishing decision affects something else. Page count can affect printing cost. Trim size can affect readability. Design choices can affect how professional your book feels. Even the way your book is structured can influence whether a reader stays engaged all the way through or quietly puts it down halfway.
This is where the human side of publishing matters. You should not have to know all of this before becoming an author. You should have someone beside you who knows what questions to ask, what details to notice, and how one decision will impact the next.
That is how we approach publishing at Davis Creative Publishing. We do not just look at the manuscript sitting in front of us. We look at the whole book, the reader, the message, the author, the business behind it, and the experience you want someone to have when they pick it up.

Publishing well is not about checking boxes. It is about making thoughtful decisions that work together to create a book you are proud to put your name on.
If you are working on a book and starting to realize there are more decisions than you expected, send us a message. You do not have to figure it all out alone. That is what we are here for. http://daviscreativepublishing.com

I get this question a lot.
And I understand why.
The answer isn't simply โ€œyesโ€ or โ€œno.โ€
Here's what independent authors need to know:
But copyright law focuses on
The U.S. Copyright Office's January 2025 report on AI-generated works makes an important distinction: AI can be used as an assisting tool in creating a copyrightable work, but material generated entirely by AI isn't protected simply because a human prompted the system.
That distinction is HUGE.
Consider two scenarios.
๐—ฆ๐—–๐—˜๐—ก๐—”๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—ข #1:
โ€œAI, write me a 50,000-word book about leadership.โ€
You then make a few minor edits and publish it.
๐—ฆ๐—–๐—˜๐—ก๐—”๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—ข #2:
You provide your own experiences, research, stories, methodology, frameworks, opinions, and ideas. You use AI to brainstorm, organize, ask questions, identify gaps, or help improve clarity. You then substantially shape, revise, arrange, and edit the final manuscript.
Those aren't the same creative process.
The Copyright Office specifically recognizes that human authorship can include creative selection, arrangement, and modification of AI-generated material.
So here's how I tell my authors to think about it:
And honestly, I think that's good advice whether we're talking about copyright or simply writing a really good book.
Because your greatest asset as a thought leader isn't just what you know.
Your experiences.
Your stories.
Your perspective.
Your frameworks.
Your judgment.
Your voice.
That's your intellectual property.
AI can help you organize those things.
It can help you get unstuck.
It can suggest questions you hadn't considered.
It can help you identify gaps.
It can even help you polish a sentence that isn't quite working.
But don't outsource the part of the process that makes your book
And pleaseโ€”fact-check everything.
AI can produce inaccurate information with remarkable confidence. If it gives you a statistic, quotation, historical fact, citation, or research finding, verify it.
You are responsible for what appears in your book.
I'd also recommend keeping a simple record of how you used AI during the writing process.
Not because you should be afraid of AI.
Because we're dealing with an evolving legal and publishing landscape, and good documentation is simply smart business practice.
And one more caution:
Be thoughtful about putting unpublished manuscripts, confidential client information, proprietary frameworks, or other sensitive material into an AI system. Understand the tool's current terms and data practices before you do.
So, should authors use AI?
Should you let AI write your book for you?
That's a very different question.
As an ๐€๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ซ-๐€๐ฌ-๐๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐ซโ„ข, you have something traditional publishing doesn't always give you:
Don't give away either one simply because a technology makes writing faster.
Use AI.
Learn AI.
Let AI assist you.
But keep your creative fingerprints firmly on the work.
That's what makes you the author.
๐‘๐„๐€๐ƒ ๐“๐‡๐„ ๐…๐”๐‹๐‹ ๐๐‹๐Ž๐† ๐‡๐„๐‘๐„:

You are not stuck because you have nothing to say.

You sit down to work on your book, and suddenly everything feels important. The story you have told for years. The lesson you learned the hard way. The framework you created. The advice people are always asking you for.

Before long, your desk is covered in notes, your computer has more tabs open than you want to admit, and the book that once felt exciting starts to feel overwhelming.
That is when the doubt creeps in.
Maybe I am not really a writer.
Maybe I do not know how to pull this together.
Maybe this book is never going to happen.
But sometimes the problem is not that you cannot write the book.
Sometimes you are simply too close to it.

A great nonfiction book is not about squeezing everything you know between two covers. It is about finding the heart of the message and knowing what truly belongs.

That is where Davis Creative Publishing can help.
We help authors take years of stories, ideas, and experience and shape them into a book that is clear, professional, purposeful, and true to what they want to say.

Your book may already be there.
You may simply need help seeing it.
Have a book idea, a pile of notes, or an unfinished manuscript? Send us a message. Sometimes one conversation is all it takes to find your next step.
