$496 million. That's what the Congressional Budget Office says National Guard deployments to U.S. cities cost in 2025. Washington, D.C. alone ran $223 million.
The CBO also says putting 1,000 Guard troops in a city costs $18 to $21 million a month.

Missouri has had its own Guard activations this year, and our Domestic Militarization Watch is tracking them.

That same money could pay the people who actually show up in a crisis. We picked counselors and paramedics. What would you pick? Tell us in the comments.

War and AI both run on minerals. Somebody has to dig them up, and it's usually not the people profiting.

Last Wednesday our ED Katerina Canyon joined The Oakland Institute, Global Justice Now, Adalah Justice Project and AFSC to talk about who's driving the mining boom and who's fighting back.

Trick or treat, fellow peace-builders. 🎃

All month we're handing out treats: research, data, and straight talk about where your tax dollars go. Washington already got its treat. The Pentagon starts the new fiscal year funded, as usual.

We run on people like you. If our work has ever taught you something or made you mad in a useful way, chip in and keep the treats coming for yourself, your neighbor, and your whole community.

A few weeks ago, Katerina wrote in Common Dreams that the same minerals can build weapons systems or build a future people can actually live in.

The difference is what we choose.

This Wednesday she's taking that argument live.
She joins The Oakland Institute, Global Justice Now, Adalah Justice Project and AFSC for "How War and AI Fuel the Critical Minerals Race." They'll cover who's driving the mineral rush, who's profiting, and how communities are fighting back.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is asking a hard question. What if demanding everything up front is exactly what's keeping us stuck? His answer is a ladder. North Korea freezes its program, sanctions ease a little, inspectors verify, and every step down in weapons earns a step up in relief.

Our Executive Director Katerina Canyon breaks down what phased relief could look like, what it should buy first, and why sanctions should be judged by one thing: how many weapons they actually help remove.

Today the world marks the International Day of Peace. 🩵🕊️

Peace was never handed down from a treaty table.
It's made in classrooms, on front porches, at kitchen tables, in the choices we make about what, and who, we invest in. It's built by neighbors who show up, organizers who don't quit, teachers, parents, volunteers. You.

Peace isn't declared. It's built - everywhere, every day.

Thank you for being one of the builders.✌️

“Music has long played a vital role in movements for social change." and on Sept 11, that's exactly what filled Cook Hall. 🎶 “Unbroken” brought Ian Fisher and Raising Daughters together for a night of songs, community, and a shared belief that peace is worth building. Thank you to everyone who made it happen.💛
