We're proud to celebrate SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital's Lynne Sekarski as a winner of the St. Louis Magazine Excellence in Nursing Awards. Lynne was nominated for her selfless care, compassion, and service in the Pediatrics: Non-Neonatal category.

"I am truly grateful to be recognized with this pediatric nursing award. I am especially thankful for the mentors and colleagues who have shaped my nursing career and provided me with so many opportunities for professional development along the way" says Lynne. "For the past 25 years, as a Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Nurse Program Coordinator, my work has focused on advocacy, clinical care and education of patients, families and providers regarding this rare genetic blood vessel disease. Children are often misdiagnosed or remain undiagnosed because they do not yet show noticeable symptoms or families, and providers many be unfamiliar with HHT. Without a timely diagnosis, some children are at risk for life-altering complications before they even know they have the disease. It is these patients and families that inspire me to take every opportunity to advocate on their behalf."

SSM Health in St. Louis proudly welcomed future nurses during the Aspiring Nurse Program Welcome Event, held Friday, June 5, at the SSM Health Simulation and Training Center in Fenton. The event marked an exciting milestone for students preparing to enter the nursing profession through SSM Health’s partnership with Chamberlain University.

SSM Health has always been committed to improving care, especially for those most in need. A few weeks ago, we announced the development of a new maternal and newborn care center that will be located within the new SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.

This innovative approach to care seeks to provide the highest level of care for high-risk mothers and their babies together in the same space. The center will span four floors, with 90 Level IV NICU beds, 18 maternal rooms, 2 delivery suites with fetal surgery capabilities, and 10 couplet care rooms where mom and baby can receive care in the same place.
