Your local advocate for better biking, walking and transit. 🚲 👣 🚍 Trailnet provides bicycling and livability programs and events to diverse groups of people.

Hallmark programs include Safe Routes to School, Earn 2 Bikes, TravelGreen, Classics Rides, and Cultural Tours.
-Trailnet’s outreach and engagement activities reach individuals from all demographics, backgrounds, and socioeconomic categories, confirming that active transportation is for anyone and everyone.

-We help make non-motorized commuting a feasible choice for anyone.

-All of our programs focus on educating and encouraging people of all ages to travel throughout their community on bike and on foot. Active, vibrant communities are healthier and safer.

-Trailnet’s Classics Rides (previously Bicycle Fun Club) is one of the most active bike event programs in the nation and serves up to 10,000 recreational bicyclists annually.

-Our TravelGreen program engages and educates those ready to make the switch to active transportation by using their bikes for more than recreation. We build and nurture commuter networks that move people closer to their goals – whether it’s to become healthier, save money, protect the environment, or just to have fun.

-All Trailnet programs respond to the shocking statistics that 2/3 of all American adults are either obese or overweight. This holds significant economic value since this “weigh-in” increases the cost of health care for everyone, impacts attendance at work and school due to related illness, and increases fuel usage because vehicles are carrying more weight. Trailnet assists municipalities in designing streets, sidewalks, and trails that allow and encourage people to walk and bike safely through their community.

-Trailnet’s community planning team works closely with community leaders, residents, and stakeholders to create safer, healthier, and more active communities.

-Between 2001 and 2011, more than 688,000 pedestrians in the U.S. were injured – a number equivalent to a pedestrian being struck by a motorized vehicle every 7 minutes. In Missouri, bicycle related injuries represent more than 10% of all roadway injuries. These numbers present an imperative need for communities to address the safety of all their citizens.

-To date we have partnered with 26 municipalities, creating plans that attract and retain residents, stimulate economic development, and improve community health. Trailnet’s Healthy, Active and Vibrant Communities (HAVC) initiative was created in partnership with the Missouri Foundation for Health. It provides opportunities and access to healthy, active living for residents of urban, rural, and suburban communities.

-Trailnet’s HAVC initiative focuses at the policy level to produce the farthest-reaching and longest-term solutions to obesity, especially in low-income communities. It includes proven strategies of policy change affecting the built environment and building social networks around healthy lifestyles.

-The HAVC initiative has received national recognition as an “emerging intervention” that holds promise for replication. It’s been developed in 11 diverse communities in St. Louis and across the state.

-Trailnet staff participates in federal, state, and local policy advocacy, working with partners to draft and file policy, educate policymakers, and promote health- and safety-related initiatives to the public.

-Trailnet participated in the passage of two recent St. Louis City ordinances: the Form Based Code ordinance that creates more walkable, bikeable communities, and the Safe Streets ordinance that protects people who walk and bike from endangerment and assault.

Approximately a third of people in the U.S. are nondrivers. In St. Louis, it's roughly 20% of people in the City, and just over 6% in the County.

Age, disability, finances — there are many reasons someone might not get behind the wheel, and they walk, bike, roll, take transit, or get lifts from people and ride shares.

This Oct. 1-8, we're inviting you to try Week Without Driving. This isn't about giving up your car for good; it's about experiencing, even briefly, what getting around without one really takes. Leave it at home for the week, for a day, or just one trip.

If you end up needing to drive anyway, that's not a failure. That shows a gap in the system.

Head to the comments to find resources learn more. Consider yourself invited!

Ride the Rivers is BACK on Saturday, Oct. 3!

Rides like this open happen because of incredible supporters like our friends at Wheelhouse Bicycle, one our sponsors this year (and previous years too!) Family owned, family operated, and community driven, Wheelhouse brings 50+ years of experience to St. Louis riders. We're so grateful to have them in our corner!

They are also kindly hosting one of our Ride the Rivers packet pickups on Monday, Sept. 28 from 3-6 p.m. You can find them at 770 N New Ballas Rd, Creve Coeur, MO 63141.

How do you get around?

No matter the modality, we all deserve to get around safely and easily. As we get closer to Week Without Driving, consider taking a different mode to get to work, or run an errand.

Not everyone has access to a car, whether due to age, disability, finances, or other reasons. Experiencing what it’s like getting around for nondrivers can help us learn to better advocate for more inclusive communities.

However you get around, whether you walk, bike, roll, take transit, drive, or any combo of those, ALL WAYS STL is worth the stop! This isn't about picking a side. It's a chance to see just how many ways our region moves — and maybe find one you haven't tried yet.

Trailnet is thrilled to be joining RAISE Transit at the ALL WAYS STL: Connected Mobility Festival, a free community celebration bringing together dozens of organizations, agencies, and advocates working to make transportation more connected, accessible, and welcoming for everyone.

We'll be tabling and also doing a bike demo, so bring your bike and learn some basic maintenance tips from our team.

This is the PERFECT event to help you get ready for Week Without Driving. For more information, check the comments. We hope to see you there!

Get yer boots on and get ready for the Bike Rodeo, coming to town on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Thomas Dunn Learning Center in Dutchtown from 1-3 p.m.!

Our bike rodeos are FREE for kiddos of all ages, and they're a perfect opportunity to practice bike skills, like braking, turning, riding in a straight line, and signaling. No matter if your kiddo is 2 or 12, this rodeo will help solidify their skills and build their confidence.

Be sure to bring your kiddo's bike and helmet, as we'll only have a few extra on hand.

You don't need to stay the entire two hours, though you can if you want! Feel free to stop by anytime between 1-3 p.m.

See you then, partner! 🤠

We're only a couple days away from our Giro Della Lou! Here's everything you need to know before you go:

(Everything in this post is at the ride page, lınked in our comments, and for folks already registered as of Friday morning, check for an email about this.)

There's still time to register! Sign up before Sunday to save yourself time (and money!) on Sunday morning, as prices go up at midnight.

START LOCATION: 2401 Marconi Avenue. Check in/late registration begins at 6:30 a.m., and open start is 7-8 a.m. No parking available at the start location.

PARKING: Street parking along Southwest Avenue, east and west of Marconi Avenue. Heads up: there will be multiple street closures in and around The Hill due to the Gateway Cup. Consider carpooling or taking public transit!

WEATHER: 75-80 degrees by 9 a.m., so if you're doing the long route, we encourage you leave as early as possible! Please stay hydrated, and bring water with you.

ROUTES: there are three routes, all with rest stops. We'll have some on street signage where allowed and raised signage, but please do not depend on these alone. We do not carry print outs of routes. Download Ride With GPS to get turn-by-turn voice navigation, and keep your eyes peeled for road markings and signage. TraQ Central is the app we use for SAG; downloading and using it makes it very easy for our team to find you if you need mechanical or medical help! All routes will have rest stops with yummy snacks and hydration.

ROUTES PART 2: all three routes include roads and greenways. Roads will NOT be closed to traffic; please make sure you are comfortable with road riding, and stay aware of your surroundings.

CUT OFF POINTS: To limit heat exposure, cutoff points will be staffed with course monitors for later riders, and you'll be directed to the short route:

Medium: 15.7 miles
Long: 30.2 miles
Noon — Arsenal & Center Cross Dr. (Tower Grove Park exit)

Long: 42.7 miles

AFTER THE RIDE: cool down with some Fitz's Root B**r and Perennial Ales, and hang around to watch all the Gateway Cup action!

We can't wait to see everyone Sunday morning!
