Bringing together painting, sculpture, glass, textiles, carved surfaces, woven elements, and light, “Material Instinct” considers what happens when an artist’s ideas encounter the physical behavior of a material.

Instinct moves through these works as a form of accumulated knowledge, guiding when to shape, when to respond, and when to leave room for the unexpected. Each artist follows a different path, allowing the finished work to carry traces of both deliberate decisions and discoveries made along the way.
