Louis audiences for nearly 57 years. In 1966, a small group of dance enthusiasts, headed by Washington University Professor of Dance Annelise Mertz, began meeting in each other's living rooms to figure out how to enable St. Louisans to enjoy more modern dance performances. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch published a tribute to former Dance St. Louis Executive Director Sally Brayley Bliss. It's also touching to see this archival photograph of Sally dancing with Dance St. Louis Artistic Director Michael Uthoff during their years with the Joffrey Ballet, giving a special glimpse into their shared history that would later help shape Dance St. Louis. Former ballerina and head of Dance St. Louis Sally Brayley Bliss dies at 89 Bliss was in turn a dancer, teacher and administrator. Most of all, Bliss was a notable booster for dance, both in St. Louis and in the wider world.
