KAI welcomed AIA Fort Worth for an on-site tour of our Maudrie M. Walton Middle School project in Fort Worth's historic Carver Heights neighborhood.
More than an addition and renovation, this project represents a thoughtful reimagining of the campus. As Fort Worth ISD plans to expand enrollment from approximately 250 to 850 students, Walton Middle School is evolving to meet the needs of a growing community. At the heart of this transformation is a commitment to honoring the past while preparing for the future, preserving the legacy of the original 1954 campus while creating spaces that will support learning, connection, and opportunity for generations to come.
Tour participants got an up-close look at the work underway, including a 30,000-square-foot addition that will support the school's growing enrollment and the phased construction approach that allows students and staff to continue learning without disruption. The tour highlighted the coordination, planning, and community engagement required to transform an active school campus while keeping learning at the center of every decision.

Thank you to St. Louis Business Journal for spreading the word about this transformative project we're so proud to have delivered for our wonderful clients The Covering House!
Anti-trafficking nonprofit opens $9M facility >> See the full article below ⬇️
A project near and dear to our hearts has reached completion!
We are proud to celebrate the grand opening of The Covering House’s new Hope & Restoration Community Center. Estimated at $9 million, the 17,000-square-foot Level 3 residential facility provides 24/7 care for minors ages 12-18 who are survivors of s*x trafficking.
The facility features two residential wings and spaces that support individual and group therapy, a full in-house education program, recreation and sensory integration.
KAI provided design and construction services for the facility and was honored to be involved in a project so closely aligned with our mission of Transforming Communities. It is truly one we will never forget.
"Forty-five years ago, my father started KAI with the goal of transforming communities; not just the physical environment but also transforming the lives of people who use those facilities. For many of KAI’s employees, this project spoke to their hearts.” - KAI CEO Michael B. Kennedy.
We are thrilled to see The Covering House move into its new, larger home, where it can continue providing residents with hope, healing and a brighter future.

For decades, KAI has helped shape the places where communities come together to learn, explore, connect, and celebrate. From museums and libraries to recreation centers and gathering spaces, our work is rooted in creating environments that enrich everyday life and strengthen the communities they serve.
Behind every space is a collaborative process centered on the people who will use it most. Our designers engage stakeholders to ensure each space reflects the community's aspirations and priorities. Our engineers create high-performing, sustainable facilities built to serve generations. Our builders bring those visions to life with an enduring commitment to quality, safety, and excellence.
This summer, we invite you to experience these spaces firsthand. Visit a local museum, explore a library, discover a community center, or enjoy a place designed to inspire curiosity, connection, and possibility.
Step outside. Explore. Be inspired. See how great spaces bring communities to life. ☀️😎
Congratulations to Brien Graham, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, for receiving the Texas Society of Architects/AIA Award for Equitable Practice in Architecture in Honor of John S. Chase Jr., FAIA. This award is given each year to a TxA member who has made a lasting impact on equity, diversity, and inclusion within the profession in Texas.
Brien is a Principal and KAI's Civic, Municipal, & Cultural Market Leader whose commitment to advancing equity extends well beyond the firm. Throughout his career, he has held strategic equity leadership roles within AIA and the National Organization of Minority Architects while championing mentorship, supporting licensure candidates, advancing scholarship initiatives and engaging the next generation through youth outreach. He currently serves as NOMA South Region vice president, sits on TxA's Nominating Committee, and recently wrapped up a term on the AIA Strategic Council. Among his many achievements, Brien helped grow the EDI dialogue and co-founded an architecture summer camp at AIA Dallas.
